Mahjong Love! M-League Catchphrases and Poses

We all have a favourite team. Some buy merch, others watch every single game. But sometimes we want to do more. As the new season starts next week, let’s take a look at the catchphrases and victory poses of the M-League teams so you can cheer along with them.

Akasaka Drivens

During the coach and staff matches, the Akasaka Drivens had a new way of cheering. They took glowsticks in their hands and swung their arms while a player was in tenpai, trying to channel the winning tile to come.

Kadokawa Sakura Knights

Though the Sakura Knights don’t have a specific catchphrase, they have their signature sideways glowstick. Take a pink glowstick and strike a pose!

Konami Mahjong Fight Club

To do the Konami two-finger salute, point your middle and index finger up and extend your arm. You can also do this after a win, raising your hand and looking up.

Sega Sammy Phoenix

The Sega Sammy Phoenix Pose is one of my favourites. To do it, say “Sega Sammy…”, then make a peace sign with your right hand sideways near your eye and your palm facing out. As you do this, say “…Phoenix!”

Shibuya Abemas

To do Shibuya Abemas catchphrase and pose, say “Mahjong…”, then make an L shape with the thumb and forefinger of your right hand (the same way you make an L in American Sign Language) as you say “…Love!”

Team Raiden

The Raiden pose is the most animated of the teams. To do it, say “Raiden no mahjong wa…”, then flick your right arm forward and point at the the camera (or forward) and say “…Omoshiroi desu!” The phrase translates to “Raiden Mahjong is entertaining!”

U-Next Pirates

To do the Pirates salute, keep your right hand straight and your fingers together, and place your hand so the tip of your forefinger touches your forehead. Your upper arm should be parallel to the ground

Riichi!

During premium nights, people buy tickets to go and cheer on their favourite team with fellow fans. Whenever their team calls riichi, everyone takes their thunderstick, turns it sideways in front of them and calls “Riichi!” You can do this at home as well with with anything you find nearby, such as a glowstick or even a pencil.

Sorry EX Furinkazan fans, I couldn’t find anything for you…

That’s it for this week! Make sure to join the M-League Watch Discord and make sure to set you alarms for Monday’s season opener! See you then!
