M-League 2020 Week 13: Rare Events

Standings

Note: The numbers below include the games played from Monday to Friday. They do not include the two days of weekend games.

The top team in this week’s performance rankings is the Shibuya Abemas. To be more exact, it was Matsumoto Yoshihiro’s week. He along earned +179.2pts over three games and brought him up to 1st place in the individual rankings. This is their third week in a row with positive performance.

Next in the performance rankings is the Akasaka Drivens, who have flipped themselves back to their winning days after 5 weeks of dropping and move up to 5th place. The team did have two wins this week, but the margins weren’t too comfortable, meaning that some work still has to be done to climb up.

In a rare surprise, our third place team in the performance ranking actually lost points. The Kadokawa takes that position, going -9.5pts this week with a 1-1-1-1 record. Hori failed to carry on the momentum from his suuankou win over the weekend, as he lost in his game. Sawazaki, who is near the bottom of the individual rankings, went net negative this week over his two games. The only positive this week was a good 1st place showing from Uchikawa.

4th in the performance rankings is Team Raiden. Kurosawa was the top player of the team this week, getting a 43,400 point first and a 42,600 point second. Hagiwara almost helped the team get to the positives in the performance ranking, but a reckless 8s discard caused them to drop this week.

5th in this week’s standings is the U-Next Pirates. Another week means another week of mostly stalling. Ishibashi’s unfortunate fate of dealing into a ryanpeikou didn’t help the team, with the team still below the playoff cutoff. This is the team’s 4th week going net negative.

6th is Konami Mahjong Fight Club. Despite some really good 2nd places, an unfortunate haneman deal-in and 4th place for Sasaki dropped the team. This is their 3rd week going down.

The next team in the performance rankings is the EX Furinkazan. Despite avoiding 4th, they also happened to avoid 1st. With the Abemas doing really well and the Furinkazan doing poorly, it caused them to drop down to 2nd place.

And finally, we have 8th place Sega Sammy Phoenix placing 8th place in the performance rankings. With this week’s -68.6, they are starting to erase the work they’ve done over the past few weeks. Falling further into the hole, the team is running out of time to get into a playoff spot. Though with four teams in the negatives and one team just barely in the positives, it’s a bit easier to surpass two teams.

That’s all for this week! For most teams, this might not be the best week to start the year, but there is still time to improve! Will the Furinkazan fight for first again? Will the Drivens drive back up? Will Kayamori’s rare yaku luck send the Sega Sammy Phoenix skyrocketing? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
