M-League 2020 Week 19: Sasaki Hisato, Demon King

Standings

The top team in this week’s performance ranking is the Konami Mahjong Fight Club. Sasaki Hisato. That’s it. His performance this week helped him break multiple records and bring his team into 5th place. They will be facing the Shibuya Abemas for all their games next week, so the path ahead of them will be challenging.

Next on the performance rankings is the Sega Sammy Phoenix. The team had a pretty good week this week, gaining 52.4pts with Uotani leading the way. They end the week in 6th place, but still have 12 more games to improve. Next week, the team will have to face Konami MFC on Tuesday and the Drivens on Thursday, so next week will be the that they will try to surpass the other teams.

Third in this week’s performance rankings is the EX Furinkazan. Though they ended up positive by the end of the week, they didn’t start out too well at the start. For the first time this season, the team briefly went below 0. Two decent games from Takizawa helped the team get back in the positives and remain in 3rd place. However, with 7th place 222.7pts away, a bad streak can drop them down signifcantly. Next week, they will face the 6th place Phoenix for all 4 games, forcing them to have to defend their position near the top and stop the Phoenix from making space at the bottom.

Next we have the U-Next Pirates. Any positive is a good result, but it may not be fast enough for them to make any major moves. They are still avoiding 4th, but they need to take more advantage of the much bigger uma for 1st place. Expect to see Kobayashi at least 2 times each week and everyone being more aggressive.

5th in performance ranking is Team Raiden. The team had an explosive start with two firsts at the start of the week, but ended up finishing the week with two 4ths to cancel it out. The team is in 4th place, but they are precariously close to the dreaded 7th place.

Heading into the negatives, we have the Shibuya Abemas placing 6th in this weeks performance rankings. It appears that they will be sending all the players every week to give everyone a chance to practice. With a clinched playoff spot, the drop doesn’t affect them at all.

7th in the performance ranking is the Kadokawa Sakura Knights. After having an extremely good result last week, they lost some steam and the gap between them and the chasing pack starts to get smaller. Though some of the big drops can be blamed on Sasaki, the team still has keep bring in some more effort to gain points themselves. If they don’t want a repeat of last season’s finals, they need to figure out a way to work well under pressure.

And finally, last in the performance standings, we have the Akasaka Drivens. In fairness, the Sasaki slaughter made it difficult for the team to earn any points. Being in 7th place in the standings, the teams has to look for more opportunities to strike and not rely on uradora in order to try for 1st. Facing only teams that are in danger of elimination, this will be a make or break week for them.

That’s all for this week! Only three weeks are left in the season and 7 teams are in danger of missing the semis. Can the Pirates navigate these rough seas? Can the Drivens turn themselves around and charge forward? Can the Phoenix rise up from the ashes? Can Team Raiden bring their energy up? Can the EX Furinkazan and the Sakura Knights be able to bring their best to battle? Will we see another monster week from Sasaki or will someone else be the tyrant of the week? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see! See you next time!
