M-League 2021 Week 1: A New Season Begins

Standings

Standings after Week 1

Proving that the team truly wants to change, Team Raiden takes the top spot in this week’s performance rankings. Getting 1st in 3 out of 4 games. Hagiwara, last year’s last place raned player, took top spot in his first game and newcomer Honda wins in his very first M-League appearance. It will be interesting to see if the team can continue the momentum going into next week and for the rest of the season.

Taking 2nd place in this week’s performance rankings is the Shibuya Abemas. The only team to have made the finals every season, the Shibuya Abemas get a good start this season with a 1/2/1/0 record and a score of +62.3. Interesting to note that the player who had the highest score for the team, Hinata, placed 2nd in her game with her score of 35,400. If they continue with their performance, this may be their year to win.

In 3rd place are the Akasaka Drivens. With Suzuki Taro making an excellent 1st place comeback in the second game and helped the team be in the positives this week with a score of +20.8 and a record of 1/1/2/0. As the team that took the very first M-League title will look to retake the tile this year.

The Kadokawa Sakura Knights is the last team to have a positive record in this week’s performance rankings. Going from a 4th place in their first game to Sawazaki winning the last game of the week, they worked their way up to end the week with a score of +10.1 and a record of 1/1/1/1. The team was the runner up last season and will be looking to move up a rank this season.

Going to the negative teams, the U-Next Pirates take 5th spot. The 2019 M-League Champions did what they do best: avoid 4th. Unfortunately, they also had trouble getting 1st this week, holding a record of 0/1/3/0 and a score of -38.4. If the team wants to keep all their members, they will need to get into the finals this year. With that, they will need to focus on winning more games so that they Pirate crew can stay together.

6th place goes to the EX Furinkazan. The 2020 M-League Champions brought out their new players for the first week, with Matsugase struggling at the start but ending up winning the 3rd game, while Rumi had some tough deal-ins in her first M-League game. The EX Furinkazan end the week with a 1/1/0/2 record and a score of -39.1.

The Sega Sammy Phoenix take 7th spot this week. Some difficult games for the team this week, Uotani was able to help the team salvage some points in the last game of the week by getting 1st. The team ends the week with a record of 1/0/1/2 and a score of -71.0.

And finally, in 8th place, we have the Konami Mahjong Fight Club. Two 4ths from their team veterans, the newcomers were able to get some of the points back with some 2nd places. Though not the start that they wanted, they will be looking to capitalize on the strengths of all their players (including the 2020 MVP Sasaki Hisato) to turn it around and get some wins.
