Standings
Taking top spot this week in the performance rankings are the Akasaka Drivens. With Sonoda (who will be releasing a book soon) and Maruyama getting 80.0+ point wins, the team made significant headway this week with their 2/0/1/1 record and +93.3 gain. Despite the team still having a ways to go, they close in on 6th place, making the gap only +107.0. This is the team’s 3rd time being the winner of the week.
Next we have the Shibuya Abemas. For the team, the highlight of the week is Hinata’s first 1st of the season. And even though Shiratori got his first 4th of the season, Matsumoto’s 1st was able to keep the team moving forward. The 2/0/1/1 record and the +54.9 gain this week helped push the team up from 5th to 4th.
The last of the gainers this week are the Kadokawa Sakura Knights. The MVP of the week was undoubtedly Uchikawa, who called a last minute riichi in South 4 to get a surprise baiman to take top spot. With the 1/2/0/1 record and +34.1 gain, the team gets closer and closer to the leading group.
Going into the negatives, the U-Next Pirates take 4th in the performance rankings. They were so close. Kobayashi was more than a mangan tsumo ahead of Uchikawa going into South 4, then Uchikawa gets a baiman. With Mizuhara continuing to do well in raking in points, the team ended the week it an even 1/1/1/1 record and a -2.5 loss, breaking their 3-week positive streak.
In 5th are the Sega Sammy Phoenix. The team started out well with a 1st from Kondo, but a slew of 3rds brought the teams score down. On the bright side, the team gets their 4th place avoidance streak to 20 games. This week, the team had a record of 1/0/3/0 and lost -13.0 points, breaking their 4-week positive streak.
The Konami Mahjong Fight Club are next. Date continues to astound the fans while the rest of the team continues to struggle. To be fair, a lot of the losses and deal-ins were due to failed riichi calls. Even with their 1/0/2/1 record and -26.6 point loss, the team is actually gaining points on 1st place, being only 37.7 points from taking top spot.
7th are Team Raiden. As we approach the midway point of the season, the team just keeps dropping. With their 9th week out of 11 of being negative, the team had a 0/3/0/1 record and a -41.2 drop. With their current score, they have the worst score in M-League history. Especially with the Akasaka Drivens doing well, they have quite the journey to make to 7th, let alone making it to the semifinals.
And, in 8th place, are the EX Furinkazan. Their 3rd week in a row of getting a negative score and their 2nd week of being the worst performer, the team has a steep fall from grace. Katsumata was the hardest hit, losing points from a lot of tsumo loss and a dealer mangan near the end. Even though they had a 0/2/0/2 record and a -99.0 loss, they still hold rank 1.
This Week’s M-League Stats
That’s all for this week! Can the Akasaka Drivens keep defeating their opponents? Can the EX Fururinkazan hold onto 1st place? Can the Sega Sammy Phoenix keep the 4th place avoidance streak going? Will we see more amazing last-minute comebacks? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
