M-League 2021 Week 19: Positioning

Standings

The top team this week is the U-Next Pirates. Both Ishibashi and Asakura got their 1st wins in a while, with Asakura’s first one since January 4th and Ishibashi’s first since November 30. Both of the firsts were more than +65.0 points, allowing them to finish the week with a 2/1/1/0 record and +121.6 gain. The gain brings them back to 1st place and they now have a total score of +384.1pts, allowing to basically guarantee a playoff spot.

Next, we have the EX Furinkazan. A huge first for Matsugase and a big South 4 win for Katsumata’s 1st gained over +140.0 points with just the two of them. Add onto that a +19.4 2nd by Aki and you have a big gain. This week, the team had a 2/1/0/1 record and a +110.4 gain to move into 2nd place. With a total of +364.1, they are bascially guaranteed to be moving onto the playoffs as well.

In 3rd place in the performance rankings are the Kadokawa Sakura Knights. After a lukewarm start to the week with a 2nd and 3rd, Hori was brought in to bring the heavy artillery. With two 1sts, he was able to get +121.4 by himself. By the end of the week, the team had a 2/1/1/0 record and a +89.0 gain. With the gain, they were able to get above the +100.0 mark and currently sit in 5th place.

The last gaining team this week is the Sega Sammy Phoenix. This week, Uotani and Kayamori were sent out to gain points. Uotani was able to get two 2nds, including a 57,200 2nd place, the highest-scoring 2nd place in M-League history. For Kayamori, she played her 99th and 100th regular season game. She got a good 1st place for her 99th, but had a 4th for her 100th. At the end of the week, the team gained +55.4 and had a record of 1/2/0/1. They remain in 4th place, but they are able to increase their lead over 7th place to more than 400 points, putting them in a good spot to go to the playoffs.

Going into the negatives, the Konami Mahjong Fight Club take 5th place in the performance rankings. With Takizawa returning to M-League a period of self-isolation, he was able to return with a +73.7 1st place. However, the team dropped points after losses from both Date and Takamiya.

Team Raiden are 6th place in the performance rankings. At this point, all M-League players except for Murakami is ranked above all four members of Team Raiden. 15 games without a 1st, having a -97.6 point loss and a 0/1/1/2 record. They have a total of -1,175.6, which is more than double the lowest score prior to this season of -565.2 (EX Furinkazan, 2019 Season, Game 175).

In 7th are the Shibuya Abemas. Shibuya Abemas As has been going on for the past few weeks, the top ranked team tends to fall after gaining 1st. The team started with a huge -16,000 4th place and weren’t able to recover. A 2nd and two 4rds finished off the week and caused the team to go 0/1/2/1 and lose -109.4 points. Despite dropping to 3rd place, they are still 400.0pts above 7th place and have a very good chance at making the semis.

And finally, in last place, we have the Akasaka Drivens. At one of the most important times that they need to gain points, they drop the ball. Unable to even get a 2nd the Aksaka Drivens, the team drops -143.3pts and a record of -143.3pts. Even though the team is 317.6pts from 6th place, all is not lost. Last season, the Kadokawa Sakura Knights were able to get +443.2pts in their last 12 games, so a comeback for the Drivens is still possible.
