Standings
The top team this week is the Shibuya Abemas. The perennial finalists wanted to let everyone know that they will be the team to beat in the finals. The highlight of the week was Matsumoto’s big +100.2 win in his 100th regular season win. In total, the team gained +91.6 and had a record of 1/1/2/0, moving the team to just 46.8pts from 1st place.
The Konami Mahjong Fight Club are 2nd place in the performance rankings. A top-level discard choice by Sasaki secured a 1st place. A great dama from Takizawa put him into 1st place. If the team continues to make these strong plays, then they will be difficult to beat in the playoffs. This week, the team gained +88.4 and had a record of 2/1/1/0 record to move them into 5th place.
Next are the Sega Sammy Phoenix.Kayamori continues to play well and Tojo was able to be three important rivals with a big South 4 mangan win. And though Kondo and Uotani got 3rd and 4th, respectively, they only had one deal-in between them. This week, they had a record of 2/0/1/1 and a gain of +64.9 to above +200.0, almost guaranteed a playoff spot.
In 4th place are the Akasaka Drivens. With a 1/2/0/1 record and 32.1 gain this week, the team moves closer to the positives. However, the strong positive results of the Konami Mahjong Fight Club meant that the distance between 7th and 6th became larger. In order for the Akasaka Drivens to move into the elusive 6th place, they would need to do some targeting. Even though the Kadokawa Sakura Knights are in 6th place, the fact that they will only face each other for 2 more games makes it difficult. Instead, the Drivens should target the 5th place Konami Mahjong Fight Club. They will have 6 games against them to make the biggest impact and try to snag the last playoff spot.
Kadokawa Sakura Knights are the last positive team in the performance rankings. Hori continues to excel this month, capturing his third 1st in a row to give the team a boost. Even though the team went 1/2/0/1 and gained +13.1, the team dropped down to the uncomfortable 6th place. Even though the gap is 365.4 points, they shouldn’t slack off. Most especially, they will have to make sure their two final games against the Akasaka Drivens are good ones.
Going into the negatives, the EX Furinkazan take 6th place in the performance rankings. The bad news is the team went 1/0/2/1 this week and went -31.8. The good news is that the team moves into 1st place! With a playoff spot in the bag, the team should now focus on getting as many points as they can and targeting the 5th and 6th place teams in preparation for securing a finals spot.
The U-Next Pirates are 7th in the performance rankings. After taking back 1st place last week, they fell back to 2nd this week. Asakura flipped between 3rd and 4th for most of his game and Ishibashi was just unable to win a hand a ended up negative despite only dealing in 4,500. Despite strong 2nds from Mizuhara and Kobayashi, the team was just unable to gain ground. This week, they went 0/2/0/2 and went -92.8, falling back below +300.0.
And finally, for the 6th time this season, Team Raiden are the worst-performing team this week. 19 games without a 1st, Team Raiden pushes the limit for the lowest score, breaking the -1,200 and the -1,300 barrier. This week, they got -165.9 and had a record of 0/0/2/2. So far this season, Team Raiden has gone 18 weeks of negative results.
