Dama Mangan

April 18, Game 2, E1-0
In E1-0, dealer Takamiya starts out 2-shanten and Hori starts out 3-shanten with two red dora. The first row is rude to Takamiya not giving her any advancement, while Hori is is able to advance to iishanten. In the middle of the 2nd row, Takamiya draws to tenpai and calls riichi on a 47s ryanmen for mangan minimum.

On the ippatsu turn, Hori defends against the riichi by breaking up his penchan and reverting to 2-shanten. He gets back to iishanten near the end of the row and on turn 12, Hori gets to tenpai and stays dama on a 47p ryanmen. Two turns later, Takamiya draws and discards the 4p, dealing into Hori. Hori wins the hand with Pinfu/Iipeikou/Aka 2 for 8,000, plus Takamiya’s riichi stick.
No Dice

April 18, Game 2, E2-0
In E2-0, Kondo is the dealer and starts out 3-shanten for chiitoi (5-shanten for a standard hand) with a 6p dora and a red 5s. In the first row, Kondo draws an ankou of wests, gets another 6p dora and is 2-shanten by the end of the row. In the middle of the 2nd row, Kondo draws a third 6p and calls riichi on a 14s ryanmen. If Kondo can tsumo his wait, he would be able to get haneman, with the chance of upgrading to a baiman with two uradora.

Unfortunately for him, neither the wall nor his opponents were willing to give him what he wanted. In the end, the hand went to a draw with Kondo the only one tenpai.
Out of 4th

April 18, Game 2, E4-4
In E4-4, Takamiya is in 4th place, 3,500 from 3rd place Hinata and 12,000 from 2nd place Kondo. With 3,200 on the table, Takamiya’s job of catching up is made easier. Takamiya starts out the hand 2-shanten with ankous of both 3p and 7p. On turn 2, Takamiya is already iishanten. Takamiya has a chance to be tenpai on turn 2, but declines the yakuless 3m penchan and searches for a better tenpai. On turn 5, she finds it and calls riichi on a 25s ryanmen. Two turns later, Takamiya draws the 5s and wins the hand. Takamiya wins with Riichi/Tsumo/Tanyao/Aka 1 for 2,000+400/4,000+400 plus two riichi sticks to move into 2nd place and within 6,900 of 1st.
The Chase

April 18, Game 2, S1-0
In S1-0, Takamiya is the dealer in 2nd place and Hinata is in 4th. Takamiya starts out her hand 3-shanten with a lone north dora, while Hinata is 3-shanten with a red 5m and a pair of red dragons. Through the first row, Takamiya advances her hand well and at the end of the first row, she gets to tenpai and calls riichi on a north dora tanki.

At this point, Hinata is 2-shanten. When she draws a north pair on Takamiya’s ippatsu turn, her hand is now positioned for mangan and she pushes. At the start of the 2nd row, Hinata makes a chii to get to iishanten. Soon after, she calls pon on the red dragon to get a yaku and be tenpai on an 8p kanchan.

In the middle of the 3rd row, Takamiya draws and discards the 8p, dealing into Hinata. Hinata wins the hand with Red Dragon/Dora 2/Aka 1 for 8,000, plus Takamiya’s riichi stick.

In S2-0, Hori is in 1st place and wants to prevent the dealer Kondo from catching up. Hori starts off 3-shanten with a red 5m. Hori doesn’t advance by the end of the first row, but has improved his hand to incorporate two ryanmens with a chance at iipeikou. Near the start of the 2nd row, Hori draws a red 5p to advance to iishanten and confirm iipeikou. At the end of the 2nd row, Hori is challenged by Kondo who calls pon and waits on a 3s/4m shanpon.

Right after, Hori gets to tenpai and stays dama on a 9s tanki. A turn later, Hori switches to a 467m wait. After that, Hori draws the 6m to win the hand. Hori wins with Tsumo/Iipeikou/Dora 1/Aka 2 for 2,000/4,000.
Hori was able to hold onto that lead and eventually win the game.

Standings
After the 1st place by Hori, the Kadokawa Sakura Knights retake the lead. Kondo was able to single-handedly lift the team up and helped move the team further away from the bottom. For the Shibuya Abemas, it was another game being a spectator, settling for another 3rd. And for the Konami Mahjong Fight Club, the bad luck continues, pushing them down to the negatives.
That’s it for day 1! The Sega Sammy Phoenix made a huge jump today and the Kadokawa Sakura Knights defended their lead, while the Shibuya Abemas and Konami Mahjong Fight Club both struggled today. Still, there are still 10 more games left to play! Who will make the most of them? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
