M-League 2022-23 Week 3: Tension

Standings

The top performing team this week is the Sega Sammy Phoenix. There is no doubt who the MVP was this week. With Kayamori, winning her game with 90,000 and getting the 9th highest score in M-League history, she was the one who turned the team around. This week, they added +68.9 to their score with a 1/1/2/0 record.

In 2nd is the U-Next Pirates. After two weeks of poor results, the team finally has their first two firsts! This effort was headed by Mizuhara and Yu, with the latter getting some big hands and avoiding dangerous deal-ins. With a +54.1 gain and a 2/0/1/1 record, the team went from 8th place to 6th place in the standings.

The Shibuya Abemas rank 3rd in this week’s performance rankings. For the 3rd week in a row, the team has added to their total and avoided 4th place. With 12 games without a last, they continue their dominance at the top of the standings, widening their lead over the rest of the league. This week, they went 1/2/1/0 with a gain of +40.4

The last gaining team this week is the EX Furinkazan. The team was heading downwards after the first three games, hitting the bottom of the rankings. Then, a strong performance from Matsugase in the last game of the week gave them a net gain. This week, they went 1/2/0/1 with a gain of +28.6.

Going into the negatives, Konami Mahjong Fight Club are 5th in the performance rankings. The team had a lot of pain at the start of the week, with the TakiHisa pair getting back-to-back 4ths. However, points were recovered when Date made the great win for 1st place in South 4. In the end, the team only lost -18.1 with their 1/1/0/2 record, allowing them to hold onto 2nd place.

The Akasaka Drivens are 6th in the performance rankings. The team still hasn’t found their footing. For the 3rd week in a row, they have lost points and the team has dropped to 8th. One positive point for the team, though, is that they have kept their total 4ths to just 2. This week, the team went -44.8 with a record of 0/2/2/0

In 7th in the performance rankings are the Kadokawa Sakura Knights. On one hand, Hori had a dominant performance in his game, getting the 5th-best score so far this season. On the other hand, both Uchikawa and Shibukawa slipped this week, registering their first 4ths this season. If the team wants to stay in the top three, they need to make sure they starting winning more consistently and stave off those who want to overtake them. This week, they went -62.6 with a record of 1/0/1/2.

And finally, we have Team Raiden. Despite Honda’s first win of the season, the rest of the team had a tough time. Hagiwara had to compete against Kayamori, and Setokuma and Kurosawa just couldn’t get anything. The team drops down to the negatives after going 1/0/1/2 and scoring -67.2 this week.
