M-League 2022-23 Week 9: Timing

Standings

The top team this week was the Konami Mahjong Fight Club. The start of the week was a bit disppointing with a small loss, but everything changed in the second half. Hisato was able to win five hands to take his game. Takamiya won six hands to win with 66,400, her best ever regular season win. With their +140.6 gain and 2/1/1/0 record, the team rose to above +200.0 and moved into 2nd place.

Shibuya Abemas are next in the performance rankings. It was a 100% rentai week for the team, going 1/3/0/0. Hinata, Shiratori and Matsumoto got their 2nds and gained some points for the team. Then Ooi was sent out. Ooi went ahead and won 2/3 of the hands in the game to win with 60,400, his best resultt so far this season. With their +102.0, it marks the team’s eighth week of gains in the past nine.

The last gainnig team this week is the Sega Sammy Phoenix. After 8 games without a first Kondo finally has a 1st place! A dealer mangan, another dealer mangan and a dealer baiman, Kondo won big with first top. With the rest of the team avoiding 4th place, the team went 1/1/2/0 with a gain of +35.2, moving them up to 5th place.

Going into the negatives, the U-Next Pirates take 4th in the performance rankings. It was a mixed bag of results this week. Mizuhara won her game, but it was just a narrow win. Kobayashi dealt in 5 times, but he also won 5 times to finish 3rd. Nakabayashi only dealt in once, but he still lost by a wide margin. Yu won two hands and didn’t deal in, but he ended below his starting score. Even though the team had an even 1/1/1/1 week with a -14.1 loss, th team managed to move up to 4th place.

EX Furinkazan are 5th in the performance rankings. The week started out with a stumble from Matsugase, registering a rare 4th place with a -6,800. Afterwards, though, Aki was sent out and she got her third 1st in a row. Though the Nikaido sisters ended up getting back-to-back 3rds at the end of the week, the team shouldn’t be too worried about their performance. With a the 1/0/2/1 record and -46.2 this week, the team falls to 3rd place, but they are still solidly in positive territory.

Team Raiden is next. The week started out with Honda getting his 3rd win in a row and ended with Honda getting a 2nd place, putting him in the top 5 of the individual standings. Unfortunately, Setokuma and Kurosawa both got 4ths despite only dealing in twice between the two of them. The team went -49.3 with a record of 1/1/0/2, slipping from 4th to 6th.

7th are the Akasaka Drivens. The team did okay, this week, with three of them ending the game above the starting 25,000. Unfortunately, they only got 2nds and 3rds those games, missing out on oka and uma wins. Add a 4th onto that and it’s a recipe for another painful week. This week, the team went 0/1/2/1 and had a loss of -74.6, pushing their score close to -400.0.

And finally, coming last in this week’s performance rankings, we have the Kadokawa Sakura Knights. This week marks the team’s fourth time having a negative week in the past five weeks. From tsumo losses to just being unable to get to tenpai, it was a very unlucky week for the team. However, Shibukawa’s win and revenge on Kurosawa does provide the team with some hope that all bad streaks must end. This week, the team went 1/0/0/3 and lost -93.6

That’s all for this week! We’re into December and only three weeks away from the M-League holiday break. Can Konami overtake the Abemas by then, or will the Abemas stand their ground? Can the Kadokawa Sakura Knights and Akasaka Drivens make a holiday comeback? Will the earth be saved? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
