M-League 2022-23 Week 10: Last Minute Opportunity

Standings

The top team this weeks is the U-Next Pirates. After weeks and weeks of waiting, the U-Next Pirates finally have their big break. On Friday, Mizuhara was sent out first to save the team. With a big dama baiman and some self-control, she was able to hold onto a slim 1st place. Afterwards, the struggling Kobayashi was sent out. Even after dealing into a mangan the very first hand, Kobayashi kepts strong and won two mangans in a row later in the game. With a big S4-0 comeback, he was able to get the team its first double 1st this season. This week, the team went 2/1/1/0 with a gain of +108.6. The gain this week puts them just 7.0pts away from being in the positives.

Next is Team Raiden. Ho! Ho! Honda! After a dismal season last season, Honda truly proving his worth this season. This week, he got two 1sts to have a 7/3/0/3 record and a score of +297.2, putting him 1st overall in the individual standings. The team as a whole went 2/0/1/1 this week with a gain of +57.4, moving up to 5th place.

3rd in the performance rankings are the EX Furinkazan. The week started off with Aki getting a big 2nd and Katsumata getting his fourth win in a row. And though Katsumata lost his streak on Friday and the team lost some points, the team still finished the week making ground on the Abemas. This week, the team went 1/2/1/0 with a gain of +56.8, closing the gap between them and the Abemas from 358.9 to 203.7. If both teams get similar results the next two weeks, the EX Furinkazan, could see themselves at the top of the standings.

The last team to gain this week is the Kadokawa Sakura Knights. The highlight of the week and possibly the highlight of the month is Okada’s sanbaiman. Perfect draws, perfect timing, a big win for a big 1st. Unfortunately, the wall wasn’t so kind for the rest of the team. Hori got last in his first game and got his 1st taken away at the last minute in his second game. The team ended up with an even 1/1/1/1 record, but they did get a big +47.5 gain on the week because of Okada’s performance.

Going into the negatives, the Akasaka Drivens are next in the performance rankings. Sonoda continues to strive while the rest of the team continues to struggle. Sonoda gets another 1st and Murakami gets another 4th. Unless the rest of the team is able to turn things around, the team will continue to sink further and further. This week, they had an even 1/1/1/1 record and a small -6.8 loss.

Konami Mahjong Fight Club take 6th in the performance rankings. It was an even 1/1/1/1 and a -12.5 drop for the team, but their performance wasn’t negative at all. They dealt into fewer than 10% of the hands that they played and won just under 20% of the hands they played. By minimizing their losses this week, the team maintains their chances of getting to 1st place in the overall standings.

7th in the performance rankings are the Shibuya Abemas. The team experienced their worst result so far this season. A week without a 1st place, Shiratori’s 4th place avoidance streak that carried over from last season ended at 27 games and Matsumoto got another 4th. The team went 0/2/0/2 this week and lost -98.4, but the team still sits in 1st place, albeit with a smaller lead.

And finally, coming in last in this week’s performance rankings, are the Sega Sammy Phoenix. Uotani just wan’t able to win anything this week. She dealt in only once in 25 hands and she still got a 3rd and a 4th. With Kondo and Tojo unable to gain points either, the team ended up going 0/0/2/2 and going down -153.1. With their big loss, the team drops to 7th place overall.
