M-League 2022-23 Week 13: New Year’s Revolution

Standings

The top team this week is Team Raiden. New year, new Raiden. Honda gets his 9th win this season, Kurosawa gets a good win and Hagiwara wins his second game in a row. After being in 6th place and in the triple-digit negatives in mid-December, Team Raiden is now almost +200.0 and just one good week away from 1st place in the standings. This week, Team Raiden went +205.4 with a record of 3/1/0/0.

Next in the performance rankings is the Konami Mahjong Fight Club. After chasing and chasing for the top spot, the Konami Mahjong Fight Club has finally made it. With three 1sts in a row, including Takizawa’s first win of the season, the team’s big New Year’s surge is the best way to start 2023. With their +131.5 gain and a 3/0/0/1 record, the is now above +300.0 and +81.1 ahead of 2nd place.

3rd in the performance rankings is the Kadokawa Sakura Knights. With the Konami Mahjong Fight Club dominating in each game they played, it looked like it was gonig to be a losing week. For the fourth game, Hori was sent out. With five big hands won, Hori finished the game over 60,000, putting the team positive on the week. The team went an even 1/1/1/1 and gained +18.9, slowly making their way back to the positives.

The last gaining team this week is the EX Furinkazan. It’s a small gain, but a gain nonetheless. Rumi started off the year with a big South 4 win, putting them temporarily in 1st place in the standings. Unfortunately, the rest of the week didn’t go as well and the team ended up with an even 1/1/1/1 record and a +5.9 gain.

Going into the negatives, the Akasaka Drivens take 5th in the performance rankings. Though the number isn’t positive, their performance was quite positive. Sonoda kept quite close to the leaders in the first place until the very end, Taro was able to make a comeback in the end of his game. If they can keep the pressure and be competitive, they may be able to escape the bottom of the standings. This week, the team went 0/2/2/0 with a loss of -41.3.

Next are the Sega Sammy Phoenix. They started out the year with back-to-back 4ths. After shaking off those losses, Tojo went back to try to get a win, but placed just behind a dominant Hagiwara. Kayamori was close to a win until Honda pulled ahead late in the game. Though the team keeps trying, their hits never connect. This week, the team went 0/2/0/2 with a loss of -81.4, putting them closer to 8th.

7th in the performance rankings is the U-Next Pirates. They ended 2022 with a bang and started 2023 with a flop. The team tried hard to do well this week, but other teams did better. The team only dealt into a total of two hands this week and won eight hands, but it wasn’t enough to even get a 2nd. With their 0/0/3/1 record and their -109.7 loss, the fall down to 5th place and back into the negatives.

And finally, in last place for the second week in a row, we have the Shibuya Abemas. The team tried, but the just couldn’t hold on. Shiratori and Matsumoto registered another loss each, Ooi still lost big points despite his late-game push. With their 0/1/1/2 record and -129.3 this week, the team falls down two places and are no longer in 1st place for the first time since October 13.
