M-League 2023-24 Week 1: A New Season Begins

Standings

Despite only playing two games this week, the Konami Mahjong Fight Club is ahead of the pack with Date Arisa and Takizawa Kazunori giving the team back-to-back wins. In fact, no other team has won two games so far this season.

Sitting in 2nd is Team Raiden. Despite the two 3rds on Friday, they showed strength through avoiding any deal-ins that day and Kurosawa’s sneaky dama comeback. With a win by Hagiwara, the team as a whole has had an impressive start.

Sitting around the middle are the Kadokawa Sakura Knights, the U-Next Pirates, the Beast Japanext and the EX Furinkazan, each team with a 1st and a 4th under their belt. For the Beast Japanext, they have finished their first week of M-League, experiencing for the first time all the ups and downs of the rollercoaster that is M-League.

Sitting at the bottom of the standings are the Sega Sammy Phoenix, the Shibuya Abemas and the Akasaka Drivens. They have gotten only one 1st between the three of them and there are a lot of expectations for all three of these teams to win. The Sega Sammy Phoenix and the Akasaka Drivens are rebuilding their teams and the Shibuya Abemas are raring for a second championship. However, it is still early in the season. Anything can happen in M-League.

And that’s all for this week! What a week it’s been! Some teams have gotten to a good start, but we have until the end of March to figure out who will go to the playoffs. Which teams will thrive over the next few months? How will Asami Maki and Nakada Kana fare in their debut games? How many chances at free curry will we get? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
