M-League 2023-24 Week 11: Cool

Standings

The Beast Japanext. Despite playing only two games, they took a big step in their pursuit for a playoff spot. In the first game, Sugawara won 5/13 of the hands in the game, including three mangans. In the second game, Daisuke won two mangans and a haneman to get a sizeable 2nd place. Their combined efforts raised their team’s score by +90.5pts, bringing them back into the -400’s.

The Kadokawa Sakura Knights, Akasaka Drivens, Sega Sammy Phoenix, U-Next Pirates and EX Furinkazan all had double-digit wins this week. Each of these teams got at least one 1st place and one 2nd place this week. For the Kadokawa Sakura Knights, their +72.3pts gain this week was enough for them to move into 1st place in the standings the first time since January 2022.

Coming in slightly negative this week is the Shibuya Abemas. Despite being the only team to win twice this week (and getting their their 10th win of the season), they also suffered from two 4ths. Just a 4th away from being in the negatives, they will have extra motivation to maintain their playoff streak.

The Konami Mahjong Fight Club had a double-digit negative week this week, their 6th negaitve week in the past 8. The team continues their winless streak, not having a 1st place since early November. It’s been a painful challenge for the team, but their lead from the start of the season continues to give them a cushion and keep them in the positives. The team will need to make sure they get back to their winning ways if they want to stay in contention of the top.

And finally, coming in last in the performance rankings, we have Team Raiden. 3/4 of their games this weeek was a 4th place, two of them being in the negatives. Their sizeable -207.9pts drop this week puts them in the negatives and puts them further into 7th place. With a 215.5pts grap from 6th place, they will need to work hard to challenge the other teams.

And that’s all for this week! We are in the last month of 2023 and the gift-giving will come soon. Can the Kadokawa Sakura Knights keep their spot at the top? Can the Beast keep climbing the mountain? Will anyone else be robbed by headbump? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
