M-League 2023-24 Week 18: Quick

Standings

The top-performing team this week is the Beast Japanext. The Beast was blessed this week with good luck, getting two double riichi wins within the same week. For Sugawara, the instant dealer haneman was a huge win. With their efforts this week, the Beast rise up a rank to 8th place. The goal by the end of the regular season is at least 6th place.

Coming in extremely close is Team Raiden. They only played two games this week, but they made the most of it. Kurosawa won an early dealer mangan and got a direct hit on 1st place near the end of the game to take 1st. With a dealer baiman by Setokuma, the team completed the daily double. The team is now just 21.8pts away from escaping elimination.

Kadokawa Sakura Knights, Konami Mahjong Fight Club and U-Next Pirates all stayed around the same score they had last week, getting results ranging from +18.5 to -7.3. The Kadokawa Sakura Knights avoided 4th to inch a bit closer, while the Konami Mahjong Fight Club had an even record for +8.0pts. The U-Next Pirates also had an even record (with Mizuhara moving up to 2nd in the individual standings), but they were slightly negative. Still, they maintain their position at the top of the standings.

Akasaka Drivens, Sega Sammy Phoenix and Shibuya Abemas all had double-digit negatives this week. Despite Asami’s first 1st in two months, both Sonoda and Futoshi had 4ths to dampen the mood. The Sega Sammy Phoenix’s Uotani Yuumi had a chance to get the team in the positives after her epic furiten ippatsu tsumo, but was passed in the last hand. As for the Shibuya Abemas, they only played two games and were just able to get a positive result in either game, pushing their team back into negative territory.

And finally, coming last in the performance rankings, we have the EX Furinkazan. Sitting in 6th place going into this week, the results were the worst thing that could happen to them. Matsugase added another 4th and still sits at the bottom of the individual standings and Katsumata gets further away from 1st place Yu and slips down to 3rd himself. With 21.8pts separating them an elimination, they need to start winning some battles to win the war.

And that’s all we have for this week! We are officially 2/3 of the way through the regular season. How will the last third play out? Can the Beast Japanext and Team Raiden escape elimination? Can the EX Furinkazan and Shibuya Abemas return to the positives? Will we get more double riichis? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
