The Kadokawa Sakura Knights. The team had an amazing week. On Thursday, it was manager Morii’s birthday. Sending out both Hori and Shibukawa, they got back-to-back 1sts as a birthday present. With their efforts this week, the team is now 1st place in the standings.
Coming in with double-digit gains are the Shibuya Abemas, Beast Japanext and Sega Sammy Phoenix. The Abemas had Ooi doing double duty on Friday and he was able to convert, totaling +48.0pts on the day to be the day’s winner. The Beast had two 1sts this week, including Nakada’s very first win of her M-League career. The Sega Sammy Phoenix had a small gain during their two games this week and now sit 200.0pts away from a playoff spot, the closest they’ve been to one in a while. The team hopes to capitalize on their historical February strength, having a cumulative total of +701.9pts during the month.
With negative results this week are the Akasaka Drivens, Konami Mahjong Fight Club, EX Furinkazan and Team Raiden. The Drivens’ this week had an even record, contributing to just a small drop for them. On another note, Sonoda also had his own personal best this week for his longest interview yet. The Konami Mahjong Fight Club went 2nd/3rd this week, slipping slightly further away from the top 2. For Team Raiden, they couldn’t get a single 1st place and were just a few points away from being the week’s biggest dropper. February is known to be one of their worst months, having a cumulative score of -794.5pts during the month. They will have to work hard to make sure they don’t stop short during the shortest month.
Finally, coming in last in the performance rankings, we have the U-Next Pirates. They tried hard to hold onto their 1st place position, but they were unable to. On Monday, Kobayashi lost the first game, but the day was saved with a 1st place by Nakabayashi. On Thursday, Yu got a 3rd and was followed by a 4th from Mizuhara, breaking her 3-game winning streak. With the drop and the Sakura Knights’ rise, the team falls down into 2nd place.
And that’s all for this week! We are already in February! By the end of next month, we will find out who will be advancing to the playoffs. Can the Phoenix rise with the power of love? Will Team Raiden defy history and have a positively-charged February? Will this month, the month with the most yakuman on record, give us the first yakuman of the season? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
