M-League 2023-24 Week 20: Call

Standings

For the second week in a row, the Kadokawa Sakura Knights are the top gainers this week. They only played two games this week, but they did better than everyone else. In the first game, Okada had a big dealer haneman in South 3 in order to break away from the competition. In the second game, Hori fought back from the bottom to end in a positive position. Hori and Okada are now ranked 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the individual rankings. With the team’s +80.1pts gain this week, they are just a game away from breaking the +600.0pts barrier.

Team Raiden, Akasaka Drivens, Shibuya Abemas and Konami Mahjong Fight Club all had double-digit gains this week. As a team, Team Raiden avoided 4th place during the whole week, with Honda getting his first 1st since early November. Their efforts allowed them to move back into a playoff position. Asami Maki led the way for the Akasaka Drivens, getting her best result of the season so far with a 55,200. Ooi was the star for the Shibuya Abemas, playing his fourth game in a row and made the team the winners of Tuesday’s matchup. For the Konami Mahjong Fight Club, a small gain inches them closer to ranking up in the standings.

Coming in with double-digit losses this week are the EX Furinkazan, U-Next Pirates and Beast Japanext. Though Nakabayashi got a 1st place for the team, Mizuhara got her second 4th in a row and Yu hasn’t had a 1st place since Christmas, leading them to slip further away from 1st place. The EX Furinkazan fall out of a playoff spot after a performance that was just below even. For the 8th place Beast Japanext, their two games got them a 3rd/4th, causing Sarukawa and Nakada to fall to 31st and 33rd, respectively, in the individual rankings.

Finally, coming in last in the performance rankings, we have the Sega Sammy Phoenix. Though February is usually their best month, they weren’t able to get good results this week. Uotani, the team captain, continues to struggle with two 4ths this week, leaving the team stuck in 9th place. Despite the poor outlook, there was some hope this week when Daigo had a 1st place, the team’s second-biggest win this season. They have 7 more weeks to get into a playoff spot. Can they do it?

All that’s all for this week! 7 more weeks until the end of the regular season! Can the Kadokawa Sakura Knights break the +600.0pts barrier? Can the EX Furinkazan, Beast Japanext and Sega Sammy Phoenix push to get a coveted playoff spot? Can we get enough winds and dragons for a yakuman? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
