Standings
With Taro’s record-breaking 112,800 game, it is no surprise that the Akasaka Drivens are the top team this week. Alongside this incredible win, both Sonoda and Futoshi were able to gain points in the other three games, with Sonoda moving into the top 5 of the individual standings. After this week’s +222.8pts gain, the Drivens move from 3rd to 1st in the standings with +527.9pts.
Surprisingly, only two teams were positive this week, the other being the EX Furinkazan. After almost four months, Matsugase finally has another 1st place, breaking his 13-game winless streak. With Matsugase and Aki playing the four games and getting a 1st place apiece, the team is climbing when it matters the most. With their 110.5pts gain this week, they are now in 7th place and 58.8pts away from a playoff spot.
The Beast Japanext, U-Next Pirates, Team Raiden and Shibuya Abemas all had mild losses ranging from -12.3pts to -31.7pts. Both the Beast Japanext and the U-Next Pirates had even 1/1/1/1 records this week. Despite the embarassing dance he had to participate in, Sarukawa was able to get a 1st place and helped get the team closer to a player spot. For the U-Next Pirates, Yu’s 1st place gets his team above 500.0pts and widens his lead on the MVP race to more than 100.0pts. Team Raiden had two 3rds during their two games and the Shibuya Abemas also populated the middle ranks to stay where they are in the standings.
Having medium losses are the Sega Sammy Phoenix and Konami Mahjong Fight Club. With two 4ths this week, the Sega Sammy Phoenix drop -56.8pts, but they hang onto 6th place. For the Konami Mahjong Fight Club, they had a 3rd and 4th during their two games as the curtain falls on the week (Literally. Twice.)
Finally, coming in last in the performance rankings for the second week in a row, we have the Kadokawa Sakura Knights. It started off well with Okada winning her game and breaking the top 3 of the individual standings, but it went downhill from there. Hori got a negative 4th place, then two more 4ths on Friday between Shibukawa and Hori. With a -127.7pts drop on the week, they fall to 188.8pts, a far cry from the 512.9pts they had just two weeks ago. Though they are unlikely to fall out of playoff position, any points lost now can make the difference in the semifinals and the finals.
And that’s all for this week! We are finally in March, the very last month of the regular season! In just four short weeks, our semifinalists will be decided. Less than 100.0pts separates 6th and 9th, so every game counts. Which team will that that sixth playoff spot? Who will challenge Suzuki Yu for the MVP award? Can anyone beat Taro’s new record of 112,800? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
