Standings
Gaining +75.0pts this week, the top team in the performance rankings is the Kadokawa Sakura Knights. They only played two games, but they left their mark. In the second game of Monday, Hori won 6 hands (including two dealer mangans) for a big 74,000 finish. Their gains this week puts them a bit closer to the top two.
Coming in a close second in the Beast Japanext. They were sitting at the bottom of the standings and need to win. Sarukawa understood the objective. Sitting in 3rd place in the south round, Sarukawa won a haneman, a dealer mangan and finished it off with another haneman to take his game. With their +69.3pts gain this week, the team move out of the bottom and into a playoff spot in 6th place. With three weeks left, though, they can’t let down their guard.
The Shibuya Abemas, EX Furinkazan and U-Next Pirates all had small positives this week. The Shibuya Abemas were able to avoid 4th place this week to be withing 13.4pts of moving up in the standings. The EX Furinkazan Had small gains this week from their three 2nds to get a bit closer to that 6th place playoff spot. Though Kobayashi had that disastrous -30,100 4th place, the rest of the U-Next Pirates were able to salvage the team’s score to make it positive and move the team into 1st place in the standings.
With negative results this week are the Akasaka Drivens, Konami Mahjong Fight Club and Team Raiden. The Akasaka Drivens had a mixed week this week with two 4ths followed by two 1sts. They ended up with the small drop and moving into 2nd place, but they still have a lot to be happy about, including Taro’s third 1st in a row top put him in the top 10 of the individual standings. The Konami Mahjong Fight Club was only able to get 2nds and 3rds, but Date was able to move into 1st place for the 4th place avoidance category. As for Team Raiden, Setokuma’s very impessive 90,500 performance was unfortunately overshadowed by the three 4ths by his teammates. Sitting 76.0pts behind 6th place, they will have to really work hard in their last 10 games of the season.
We have the Sega Sammy Phoenix. After moving up into 6th place last month, their February luck has ended. They only played two games, but they had two 4ths, including a -12,100 by Daigo. The timing of this slump is quite bad, but they still have time to make it up. Anything can happen in three weeks.
And that’s all for this week! We are into the last month of the regular season. In three weeks, we will know our six semifinalists. Can the Beast hold on and make the playoffs in their inaugural season? Can the EX Furinkazan or Team Raiden move up and pass them? Will the Sega Sammy Phoenix rise up and take the spot by surprise? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
