The top team this week is the Konami Mahjong Fight Club. They have always been good in their first four games. They went +134.9pts in the 2021-22 season and their +135.0pts in 2022-23 season. This year is their best one so far, with a 3/1/0/0 record and a +213.2pts gain. Much of it was thanks to Hisato, who had two 1sts this week. If the team wants to aim for the championship, they will have to maintain this positive momentum through the entire season.
Also positive this week are the Kadokawa Sakura Knights and the Sega Sammy Phoenix. For the Kadokawa Sakura Knights, their even 1/1/1/1 converted into a +40.3pts thanks to a big 1st by Hori (the biggest so far this season) and a big 2nd by Shibukawa. For the Phoenix, two 2nds for their first two games let the team start off on a positive note.
The U-Next Pirates, Akasaka Drivens, EX Furinkazan, Team Raiden and Shibuya Abemas all finished the week negative, ranging from -2.5pts to -71.7pts. With the average 1st place finishing with a score of over 48,900, someone teams had to take the fall. A 1st and 4th for the Pirates put them very slightly negative. For the Drivens, three 3rds (including an unusal negative 3rd place by Futoshi) counteracted Sonoda’s opening 1st place. The EX Furinkazan and Shibuya Abemas were both unable to get 1st, while Team Raiden ended the week with two 4ths.
And finally, coming last in the standings, we have the Beast X. The season for them started out with a 4th and a 3rd for a total of -69.5pts, a not so nice season opener. Though Daisuke got the team’s first 1st with a 35,300 win on Friday’s first game, it happened to be the smallest 1st during the week. On the second game, Sarukawa ended up at -17,800, the lowest score of the week and the second-lowest score in the Beast’s history. Still, it’s only the first week and there is a lot of time to recover.
And that’s all for the first week fo the M-League 2024-25 season! We’ve gone through 8 games and have 208 left to go in the regular season. What surprises will those 208 games have in store? Will we break our yakuman drought? Will we have even more rinshan wins? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
