M-League 2024-25 Week 2: Journey

Standings

The top-performing team this week is the Sega Sammy Phoenix. It was a great debut week for Genta and Takaki. Two 1sts by Genta and a comeback 2nd place by Takaki, their +91.4pts and 2/1/0/1 record propelled the team to new heights. With Genta’s win on Thursday, it was the first time the Sega Sammy Phoenix were at the top of the standings in two years.

Also going positive this week are the Akasaka Drivens, U-Next Pirates, Team Raiden and EX Furinkazan. For the Drivens, Futoshi was able to come through in a very tight game to get a good 1st and move the team to the positives. For Nakabayashi and the U-Next Pirates, he did double duty in his long-awaited first appearance and ended up the day’s winner on Friday, allowing the Pirates to be in the positives as well. Team Raiden was able to avoid 4th place all this week with the help of the entire time. And though the EX Furinkazan ended the week with two 4ths, the two 1sts from earlier in the week gave them a just positive week.

Going negative this week are the Shibuya Abemas, Beast X and Kadokawa Sakura Knights. All three of the teams had a 4th place this week which pulled them down to the bottom three spots of the standings. For the Abemas, Ooi’s uncharacteristic chombo gave him a decent-sized penalty, but there is a silver lining in his fight for 2nd place that game. The Beast X had Sarukawa losing a tight game after an intentional deal by his opponent aided one of his rivals. For the Kadokawa Sakura Knights, they couldn’t get a single positive game.

FInally, placing last in the performance rankings, we have the Konami Mahjong Fight Club. It was a tough week for Takamiya, getting two 4ths and the lowest score of the week with a -12,100 game. Neither Takizawa nor Date were able to get a 1st place, which caused the team to go down by triple-digits. However, their very strong preformance in the first week mean that they only slip down to 2nd place overall, just 17.2pts away from reclaiming the top spot.

And that’s all for this week. All 36 players have played their first game this season. How will the rest of their games go? What rare yaku will be in the spotlight next week? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
