The top-performing team this week is the Kadokawa Sakura Knights. There is no doubt that Hori is the MVP of the week. Playing three games this week, he won all three, including a double duty daily double on Thursday, the first since Suzuki Yu did it back late last season. With the addition of Okada’s 2nd place, the team went 3/1/0/0 this week and earned +185.6pts, moving them from 5th to 2nd.
Team Raiden, the Akasaka Drivens and Sega Sammy Phoenix all went positive this week as well. Carrying Team Raiden this week is Honda, who got his first win best 1st place since November 11, 2022 with a 56,300. For the Akasaka Drivens, Asami got her first win since February 23, 2024 with her game on Tuesday. With Takaki’s first win in his career, the Phoenix were able to rise a bit more and extend their lead a bit more.
Dropping this week are the Shibuya Abemas, Konami Mahjong Fight Club, Beast X and EX Furinkazan. Though the week started well, the ShoMatsu duo got back-to-back 4ths and on Thursday to make the team net negative. The Konami Mahjong Fight Club played only two games this week, but the 2nd and 3rd gave them a small loss. For the Beast, Sugawara’s 2nd place was not enough to cancel out the losses incurred by her other teammates earlier in the week (including a 4th by Nakada). And with the EX Furinkazan, a 3rd and a 4th by the sisters meant dropping the team down to below -200.0pts.
Finally, we have the U-Next Pirates. After two weeks of positive results, the team finally had their drop. Her -12,000 on Tuesday was her worst result in a year. From there, not a single one of her teammates could get a positive. The team drops down to the negatives and falls from 3rd to 6th place.
And that’s all for this week! After almost four years, we had another chankan appearance. What other rare yaku will we see? When will we get our first sanshoku doukou? Will we ever get to see sankantsu? And when will our yakuman drought be ended? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
