M-League 2024-25 Week 5: Sanshoku

Standings

The top-performing team this week by far, with a total gain of +175.8pts and a 2/1/1/0 record, is the Akasaka Drivens. With two wins this week and the highest score so far this season of 86,300, Suzuki Taro is definitely the week’s MVP. His efforts alone took the team from the negatives all the way to 2nd place. Individually, he went from 33rd in the league to 13th. If the team has another week like this, the Akasaka Drivens can move into top spot.

The U-Next Pirates, Sega Sammy Phoenix, EX Furinkazan and Konami Mahjong Fight Club all had positive results this week. The U-Next Pirates only played two games, but they made the most of it with a 1st place by Kobayashi and a 2nd place by Nakabayashi. The Sega Sammy Phoenix had the Daigo’s big 1st outweighing Kayamori’s 4th place, then two 2nds to end off the week still positive and till 1st overall. The EX Furinkazan managed to make up some ground from Katsumata’s 1st place and the rest of the team avoiding 4th. For the Konami Mahjong Fight Club, the 1sts and 2nds by the team helped counteract Date’s unfortunate 4th to keep them in the top 3.

Dropping this week are the Kadokawa Sakura Knights, Team Raiden and Beast X. Though Hori got his fourth 1st in a row, 4ths by Shibukawa and Uchikawa dropped the team down two spots. A 3rd and a 4th in Team Raiden’s two games put the team in the negatives and down to 6th place. The Beast X had Nakada’s 4th place overpowering Sarukawa 1st, with the rest of the team getting 3rds to put them deeper into 7th place.

Finally, we have the Shibuya Abemas. The struggling team continues to struggle. The usually reliable Ooi ended up getting his worst score ever with his -14,300 loss. With a net negative result on Matsumoto’s double duty day (despite his amazing baiman), the team dropped -112.7pts and fall down to 9th place.

And that’s for this week! We are officially more than 1/6 of the way through the regular season. That means we still have a lot of M-League action left to follow! Can the Drivens continue their charge forward? Can the Shibuya Abemas stop suffering? What other cool yaku combinations are in store for us? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
