The best performer this week is the Sega Sammy Phoenix. The 2nd place team continues to challenge for the top spot in the league. On both Monday and Thursday, they were the top performers of the day. On Monday, Genta got a 1st place to continue his 4th-place avoidance streak and get the Phoenix above +400.0pts. On Thursday, Takaki’s 61,600 win (his best win so far in his career) pushed the team to almost +500.0pts. In total this week, they had a +122.3pts gain and a 2/1/1/0 record.
The Kadokawa Sakura Knights, U-Next Pirates and Shibuya Abemas all had double-digit gains. The Kadokawa Sakura Knights had Shibukawa Nanba playing three times and hitting all three spots on the podium, with Hori rounding it out with a 3rd to maintain a net gain this week. Kobayashi go had a really rough -29,500 for the final game of the week, but the 1sts and 2nds by his teammates made the team net positive. And for the Shibuya Abemas, their even 2/0/0/2 record was made net positive mainly from Shiratori’s 65,900 win, the third-best win of his career.
The Konami Mahjong Fight Club and Team Raiden both had single-digit gains. Though Date’s double duty to start off the week didn’t go so well, Takizawa’s win on Thursday recovered much of it and a bit more. For Team Raiden, Honda’s 4th place was recovered by big 2nds from the rest of his teammates, letting the team gain +0.8pts this week.
Beast X and Akasaka Drivens both played only two games and dropped this week. On Tuesday, the Beast had back-to-back 3rds to push them deeper into 9th place. For the Akasaka Drivens, a 2nd by Futoshi and a 4th by Taro dropped the team and pushed them closer to the approaching Sega Sammy Phoenix.
Finally, we have the EX Furinkazan. After a relatively big gain last week, they erased all that work and fell a bit further down. The sisters got a 3rd and a 4th on Tuesday, dropping the team by 80.2pts. On Thursday, Matsugase got a big negative, dropping them another 70.5pts. Though Katsumata was able to get a +7.8pts 2nd place, it was a drop in the bucket in the team’s -142.9pts week. The team now sits 321.6pts below the cutoff.
And that’s all for this week! We will be entering December starting next week. Can the Phoenix make another push for 1st place? Can the bottom three teams escape the hole? What gifts will the mahjong gods give? Can Yu get another 5 wins in a row like last December? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
