M-League 2024-25 Week 16: Forward Driven

Standings

Despite the Drivens focus in the intro, it is actually the EX Furinkazan who gained the most points this week. It was an incredible start to the new year with Aki stealing the show. Playing both games on Monday, she got back-to-back wins to have the team’s first double duty daily double since Katsumata did it on May 17, 2021. Though a 1st/4th on Thursday ended up net negative, the team still ends up with a +123.6pts gain to push them up ot 7th place overall.

Akasaka Drivens, Team Raiden, Sega Sammy Phoenix and Shibuya Abemas all gained as well this week. Asami getting her fifth win in a row was the main highlight for the team this week, but Sonoda’s 70,700 was a big contributor to the team’s score and their brief peek above +800.0pts. Honda got a 1st place for Team Raiden and Kurosawa’s 2nd place on Friday hlped bring the team up to 4th place overall. The Sega Sammy Phoenix had Genta getting his seventh win of the season and affirmed his spot at the top of the standings. And for the Shibuya Abemas, Shiratori’s 1st place gave him his ninth win of the season despite the team falling down to 8th place.

The Kadokawa Sakura Knights, Beast X and U-Next Pirates. The 2nd/3rd on Monday led the Kadokawa Sakura Knights to be net negative on the day, Sawazaki Makoto appearance on Friday was the real highlight for the team and the whole league. The Beast X continues to struggle greatly, with Sarukawa’s 4th place on Friday pushing the team below -1000.0pts just 56 games into the season. And for the U-Next Pirates, a double 4th on Friday and a double 3rd on Thursday led to the team’s second-worst week of the season.

Finally, we have the Konami Mahjong Fight Club. After a triple-digit gain at the end of 2024, they started 2025 with the worst week by a team so far this season. On Tuesday, the TakiHisa combo had back-to-back 4ths, including Hisato getting his worst result ever of -21,800. On Friday, a 4th place by Date and a 3rd place by Takamiya pushed the team down by a total of -188.8pts. With this result this week, they fall down to 5th place and are just another last place away from falling into the negatives.

And that’s for this week! We are officially in 2025! In just three short months, we will be finished the regular season and our playoff players will be decided. Can the Akasaka Drivens keep their spot at the top, or will the Sega Sammy Phoenix catch up to them? Can the EX Furinkazan and Shibuya Abemas make their way up into a playoff spot? Can the Beast X make the miracle comeback? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
