The top-performing team this week is the Akasaka Drivens. The team was aiming for heights never reached by an M-League team. On Tuesday, both Sonoda and Taro got a 1st place to take the team’s score up to +905.7pts, beating the previous record set by the U-Next Pirates of +887.6pts at the end of last season. Though the 3rd by Asami broke her 5-game winning streak and the 3rd by Futoshi made the team the worst performers of the day, the team still gained the most points of any team on the week.
Next is the Beast X. It was quite a week for the team that they get their own section. Nakada played in the first game and despite her efforts, ended up with her seventh 4th of the season. In E2-0 of the next game, Daiuke ended up getting a chombo and it looked like it was just going to be another one of those weeks. But then, in E4-0, Daisuke started out with a bunch of dragons. With good draws and a lot of luck, Daisuke was able to get the team’s first yakuman. By the end of the game, he had a score of 91,300, the highest score achieved so far this season. On Thursday, Daisuke did double duty and got yet another 1st place followed by a 3rd. By the end of the week, the team had gained +80.9pts to move their head above the -1000.0pts mark. If they want to make the playoffs they will have to repeat this performance (minus the chombo) every week for the next ten weeks.
Kadokawa Sakura Knights and Sega Sammy Phoenix were both positive this week. Though the start of the week had two 3rds for the Kadokawa Sakura Knights (including a close game for Okada), Uchikawa’s 2nd and 1st double duty shifted the team positive. For the Sega Sammy Phoenix, their 2/0/0/2 record (including Genta’s 8th win of the season) pushed them just a bit higher.
The Konami Mahjong FIght Club, Team Raiden, U-Next Pirates and EX Furinkazan all registered losses this week. With a 2nd and a 3rd in their only two games this week, the Konami Mahjong fight Club falls dangerously close to the negatives with +4.7pts. Similarly, Team Raiden’s performance puts them at just +2.0pts. The U-Next Pirates continue their slight slide this week with a 0/2/1/1 record, not having a 1st place since Christmas Eve. And for the EX Furinkazan, a 4th by Rumi and three 2nds by Matsugase lost the team some ground in their fight for a playoff spot.
Finally, we have the Shibuya Abemas. Comparatively, the team didn’t lose that much more than the other teams, but the drop is still considerable at this stage of the game. In the first game, Matsumoto ended up dealing in 5 times in a row, a big hearbreak in his pursuit of his first 1st of the season and getting him another 4th. With Shiratori’s 2nd place not enough to offset these losses, the team falls a bit further into 8th place.
And that’s all for this week! Only 10 more weeks until the end of the regular season! Can the Akasaka Drivens break +1000.0pts? Can any team catch up to them? How many more yakuman will we see this season? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
