The top performers this week are the Akasaka Drivens. On Tuesday, Sonoda started off the game with a bang with his first ura 3 in his career. Keeping that momentum, he finished the game in 1st place. In the next game, Taro got a 1st place as well and brought the team up to +984.2pts. Though Thursday started with Asami getting a 4th, Futoshi’s 2nd place pushed him above +200.0pts individually, putting all four Drivens players above that mark. By the end of the week, the team remain within a decent 1st place away from +1000.0pts.
The Beast X, U-Next Pirates, Shibuya Abemas and Team Raiden all gained points this week. The Beast X had Sugawara getting a strong 1st place in her game and Daisuke getting 2nds to move the team into the -800.0pts range. The U-Next Pirates finally got their first 1st place in almost a month and finished that day with a second 1st place. The Shibuya Abemas had a bunch of 3rds this week, but Hinata’s big 60,300 1st place edged the team positive and into 7th place. And for Team Raiden, two 2nds in their two games this week kept them above 0.0pts.
The Konami Mahjong Fight Club, Sega Sammy Phoenix, EX Furinkazan all dropped this week. Though Hisato got the Konami Mahjong Fight Club’s first 1st in almost a month on Friday, it wasn’t enough enough to cancel the losses from earlier in the week. The Sega Sammy Phoenix also had three drops this week, but Daigo’s 1st place softened that blow. And with the EX Furinkazan, a 2nd and a 4th in the team’s two games pushed them down to 8th place.
Finally, we have the Kadokawa Sakura Knights. Sitting in the final playoff spot, their position is getting more and more precarious. The team was unable to get a 1st place this week and ended up getting two 4ths this week. With the -115.9pts drop this week by the team, they now hold just a 103.5pts lead over 7th place. If they continue dropping, they will lose that final spot.
And that’s all for this week! We are officially 2/3 of the way through the regular season. 72 games total games (32 for each team) remain and the fight at the border remains hot. Which teams will stay and which teams will go? Will the Drivens finally break +1000.0pts? Will we have yet another yakuman near-miss? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
