M-League 2024-25 Week 19: Baiman

Standings

The top-performing team this week with a +119.4pts gain is the U-Next Pirates. Surprisingly, this big gain only came from two games this week. On Thursday’s first game, Mizuhara has in the lead with a score of 50,600 going into the final hand, but she got passed in the last hand. Though she got 2nd, she still ended with a healthy +30.6pts gain. In the second game, Yu got a lucky +88.8pts to push the team above +400.0pts. The team is within one good 1st away from moving into 2nd place in the standings.

Just missing out on the top-performing title by 0.1pts (gaining +119.3pts) is the Konami Mahjong Fight Club. After three straight weeks of falling and even moving into the negatives, the Konami Mahjong FIght Club finally has something to cheer about. On Monday, Date took advantage of the south round to go from 4th place to 1st and win her game. On Thursday, Takizawa managed to win a decisive battle in the final hand to win his game with a score of 54,800, his first win since November. With the wins, the team moves back into the positives and back into 4th place overall.

Shibuya Abemas, Akasaka Drivens and EX Furinkazan all gained this week. Getting a 1st and three 2nds, the Abemas move up from 7th to 6th place, now in playoff position. The Akasaka Drivens continue to inch higher and even reached +997.2pts within the week, but that +1000.0pts barrier still eludes them. And for the EX Furinkazan, a small +24.0pts gain (thanks to Aki playing three games this week) moves the team up to 7th place.

Team Raiden, Sega Sammy Phoenix and Beast X all dropped this week. It was a teetering week for Team Raiden as the fell into the negatives, but a strong 1st place by Honda to end the week brought the team back into the positives. A 2nd and a 4th in the Phoenix’s only two games of the week meant lost ground on 1st and 3rd place is even closer. And a 1st place by Daisuke to start off the week didn’t do much to offset the three 4ths they got later that week.

And finally, the Kadokawa Sakura Knights dropped the most for the second week in a row. The team was unable to handle the pressure of being in the final playoff position. WIth a 3rd and three 4ths (including a double negative on Friday) dropped the team by -212.2pts. With their closest opponents all gaining, the team drops down to 8th place, now almost 200pts from the border.

And that’s all for this week! January is over and only two months remain in the regular season. In eight weeks time, we will have our six semifinalists! Can the Pirates push for 2nd place (or even further)? Can the Sakura Knights stop the slide? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
