Standings
The top-performing team this week is the U-Next Pirates. After a short hiccup to start off February, the team returns to its winning ways. After dealing into a mangan near the start off the game, Mizuhara was able to make the comeback and take 1st place in the last hand. On Thursday, Kobayashi dealt into a mangan at the start as well, then made his own comeback and then some. To wrap up the team’s week, Yu won a mangan during his dealership and held it to win his game. With a 3/1/0/0 record and a +145.9pts gain, the team is now just a few points away from breaking +500.0pts.
The Beast X, Shibuya Abemas and Sega Sammy Phoenix also gained point this week. The Beast X gained points in every game with three 2nds and a 1st, gaining them +89.1pts this week. The Shibuya Abemas only played two games, but Shiratori’s big 1st place cancelled out Ooi’s 4th place and then some. The Sega Sammy Phoenix avoided 4th place in all their games as Genta got a 1st place and took back his position at the top of the standings.
The Konami Mahjong Fight Club, Kadokawa Sakura Knights, Team Raiden and Akasaka Drivens all lost points this week. The Konami Mahjong Fight Club had an even record this week, but Takamiya had gone negative and the team stays below 0. The Kadokawa Sakura Knights had two 3rds in their only two games and they slowly dropped further away from a playoff spot. Even though Setokuma briefly took the team above +100.0pts for the first time this season, Team Raiden had two 4ths afterwards to drop them down. And for the Akasaka Drivens, back-to-back 4ths on Monday caused the team to drop a lot and push them further away from the big +1000.0pts milestone.
Finally, we have the EX Furinkazan. Already sitting in 7th place in the standings, the team was just unable to win anything. WIth two 4ths, including a frustrating 19,300 4th place by Rumi, the team dropped -103.1pts and moved down to 8th place.
And that’s all for this week! Only six more weeks left in the regular season! Can the U-Next Pirates keep going and catch up to the dominant Akasaka Drivens? Can the Shibuya Abemas defend their playoff spot, or will there be a challenger? Will Genta, Shiratori, or someone else take the MVP title? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
