With their stunning performance, the Akasaka Drivens are the top performers of the week. The team’s week started off with a 4th place finish by Asami, pushing the team down to +827.2pts and made the big goal seem like a distant dream. Then, things went into high gear. In a tight race, Sonoda managed to get 1st place in the next game to put the team positive on the day. On Friday, an incredible early run by Taro pushed the team back above +900.0pts and put them just one game away. With a very close call near the end of the game, Futoshi got 1st place in his game by just 300, but it was enough to push the team up to +1011.9pts, making the Akasaka Drivens the first team in M-League history to break +1000.0pts.
The Konami Mahjong Fight Club, Team Raiden and EX Furinkazan all gained points this week. It was a Date/Hisato week this week, with both players getting a 1st and a 3rd, helping the team return back into the positives. Team Raiden only had two games this week, but the big 52,400 1st place by Kurosawa helped the team gain points and inch themselves further away from the dreaded -100.0pts. For the EX Furinkazan, the double duty from Aki on Monday helped provide some cushioning for Katsumata’s near-negative 4th place, though the team still remains in 7th place in the standings.
Losing points were the U-Next Pirates, Sega Sammy Phoenix, Kadokawa Sakura Knights and the Beast X. The U-Next Pirates had Mizuhara and Nakabayashi playing in the team’s only two games, but Mizuhara’s 3rd place was very slightly bigger than Nakabayashi’s 2nd, leading to the small loss. The Sega Sammy Phoenix avoided 4th all this week, but they were also unable to get 1st, leading to a 0/2/2/0 record and a -12.6pts drop. The Kadokawa Sakura Knights continue to struggle in 8th place after failing to get 1st and another painful 4th place from Okada. And for the Beast X, Daisuke’s 1st place start was lost two three 4ths in the rest of the week, incluing the double 4th on Friday to end February.
Finally, we have the Shibuya Abemas. After the team celebrated Matsumoto’s first 1st and strong gains last week, they ended up faltering this week. On Monday, the team had a double 4th from Shiratori and Ooi, even as Shiratori never fell below 17,200. On Thursday, neither Hinata nor Matsumoto could get the 1st places the team needed, leading to a week record of 0/1/1/2 and a -101.6pts drop. This drop puts them just 162.7pts away from dropping out with four weeks left to go in the regular season.
And that’s all for this week! The Akasaka Drivens have finally done what was thought to be impossible! But, the points do not stop at +1000.0pts! We still have one more month of regular season action left! Can they get to +1100.0pts? +1200.0pts? Maybe even higher? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
