M-League 2024-25 Semifinals: Games #7-12

Standings

Remaining in the top spot is the Akasaka Drivens. It was a fairly neutral for the team, getting three 2nds and a 3rd in their past four games. They were net positive with a +9.0, but the U-Next Pirates are approaching quickly.

Sitting in 2nd in the standings is the U-Next Pirates. It was Nakabayashi+Kobayashi doing the work for their past two game days, with both players doing decently well. Both players had a 1st place (with Nakabayashi getting a huge 60,200 1st place) and though Kobayashi got a 4th place on Tuesday, his 1st place more than cancelled it out. WIth a total gain of +88.2pts this week, the team shrinks the Drivens’ lead to just 50.0pts.

Returning to 3rd place is the Sega Sammy Phoenix. Daigo was the big winner for the team, getting a 1st place and a 2nd place. Even as Takaki and Genta got 3rds, the team still gained +29.2pts. The team still has a bit of work to do, being almost 200.0pts from 2nd place.

Team Raiden drops down to 4th in the overall standings. The team had it rough in their past two game days, dropping by -106.4pts. On Friday, Hagiwara and Setokuma had back-to-back 4ths, a big blow to the team’s lead. Though Honda recovered some of it with a 1st place on Tuesday, a negative 4th by Hagiwara was bigger than the 1st. Witht he losses, the team is 98.4pts away from dropping out of a playoff spot.

Still in 5th place is the Konami Mahjong Fight Club. The team was net positive with a +49.8pts gain, headed by a Hisato (who finished his game with 58,900) and Date getting 1sts. With the team’s gain and Team Raiden’s loss, the team is within a 1st/4th scenario of a playoff spot.

Finally, we have the Shibuya Abemas. The team continues to struggle in the semifinals. With a 2nd, two 3rds and a 4th, the team is still the only team without a 1st place. With a 429.2pts gap between them and 5th place, they have to win almost every game to even make it up one rank. The goal is at least 4th place in the standings. They have 12 more games to do it.

And that’s what happened over the past 6 games! Before the week is done, we will be more than halfway through the semifinals. Can the Pirates make that push for 1st place? Can the Shibuya Abemas make the miracle climb? How many more double riichi chances will there be? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
