M-League 2025-26 Week 1: A New Season Begins

Standings

Despite playing only two games, the Kadokawa Sakura Knights take the early lead in the M-League standings. Akutsu’s spectacular 56,000 1st place debut marks the highest-scoring debut in M-league history. With Okada following it up with a solid 2nd place, the team sits at 87.7pts, being 31.2pts ahead of the next team.

Other teams making gains include the Pirates, Furinkazan, Drivens, Raiden and Beast. The U-Next Pirates in particular have made quite a splash to start the season, with prominent starer Nakabayashi Kei getting a yakuman on the very first day. For the EX Furinkazan, newcomer Nagai and returning player Uchikawa both got 1sts for the first daily double of the season. For the other three teams, they each clocked in a 1st place.

Getting negative results are the Konami Mahjong Fight Club, Abemas and Phoenix. MFC had a middling result this week with a 2nd and a 3rd, but it does put them slightly below 0. The Abemas were net negative on both days (with a 4th by Matsumoto on Tuesday and one by Ooi on Friday), but Shiratori’s 1st and 2nd place tempered those results a bit. For the Phoenix, it was a double 4th start right after their championship season. Though, it is just the start of the season.

And finally, we have the Earth Jets. It’s been a rough debut for the team. On the first day, Kazuma and Miura got a 3rd and 4th, respectively (to be fair, it’s difficult to fight against a yakuman). They had a chance to improve their score on Friday, but Aikawa’s +3.7pts didn’t do much and Shibata got the second-worst debut in M-League history with his -7,400 4th place. Though -134.6pts is not a good place to be at, they have plenty of games to get rid of their first week jitters and make a comeback.

And that’s all for the very first week of M-League! This is just the start of an exiciting season with more teams, more players and more games than ever! And by the end of it all, only one team can call themselves the champions. How will the battles go? Which teams will triumph and which teams will be in tears? Will there be many more yakuman to come? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
