In E3-3, Genta is in 4th place, 2,900 behind 3rd place Akutsu and 10,800 behind 2nd place Shibata. With two riichi sticks and three honba in the middle, the next winner will get 2,900 in bonuses.
Genta starts our the hand at 4-shanten, lacking in value. The first row quickly develops for Genta, giving him a triplet of norths and souths for 2-shanten. After making a pair of 3s in the second row, Genta gets to iishanten and gives himself a decent chance at a good wait.
However, as the turns go on, the manzu become more and more dangerous. As a result, When Genta draws a 4m and a 6m, he starts to make some evasive maneuvers.
While Genta does this, Shibata gets to tenpai in the third row and waits on a 9s/east shanpon, only allowed to win on the east.

Soon after, Genta gets to tenpai and waits dama on a 5m kanchan. When Genta draws the 8s dora on his next turn, he breaks the manzu shape (since the 4m has recently become safe). A turn later, he draws another 8s and gets to tenpai on a 3s/8s shanpon.

Calling chii on Genta’s manzu discard, Akutsu gets to tenpai on an east/5m shanpon,k only allowed to win off the east, just like Shibata.

With Akutsu and Shibata at an impasse, this gives Genta runway. On Akutsu’s last turn, he draws and discards the dora 8s and deals into Genta. Genta wins the hand with South/Dora 3/Aka 1 for 8,000+900 plus two riichi sticks, moving into 2nd place by 100.
Ura Ura

October 14, Game 1, S1-0
In S1-0, Genta is in 3rd place and 1,900 behind 2nd place Shibata.
Genta starts out 2-shanten and though he is lacking value, he does have paths to a wide wait. At the start of the second row, after making a 9p triplet and some sequences, Genta gets to tenpai and calls riichi on a 25m ryanmen, wanting the 2m for iipeikou or the red 5m for the value.

Within the go-around, Akutsu pairs up the floating 5s and calls riichi on a 58p ryanmen.

Calling chii to break the ippatsu, Shibata gets to tenpai on a 2s/8p shanpon.

Because of the chii, the wall shifts perfectly in Genta’s favour and gives him his winning 5m on his next turn. Hitting a pair of uradora, Genta wins with Riichi/Tsumo/Ura 2 for 2,000/4,000 plus a riichi stick, moving to within 3,000 of 1st place.

In E2-0, Kazuma is in a 2nd place tie and is 8,000 behind 1st place Kayamori.
Kazumata starts out the hand at 3-shanten with two ryanmens. He does have some good wait potential, but he still needs to find a fifth block. The first row doesn’t quite provide a definite fifth block but he does have some potential options in all three suits. In the second row, he creates a 69m ryanmen, getting him to 2-shanten and guaranteeing him a good wait and pinfu.
In the middle of the row, Kazuma creates a 25s ryanmen shape, opening up the option for a 345 sanshoku. All he needs is the 5s and the 5m. With a bit of maneuvering, Kazuma replaces his west pair with a 7p pair and gives himself the potential for tanyao as well.
In the third row, Kazuma replaces the 69m ryanmen with a 58s ryanmen, guaranteeing him tanyao. Soon after, he draws the 8s and waits dama on a 25s ryanmen, wanting the latter for mangan. Then, on the very last turn, Kazuma draws the 5s and wins the hand. Kazuma wins with Tsumo/Pinfu/Tanyao/Haitei/Sanshoku/Dora 1 for 3,000/6,000, a big win to move into 1s.

In E3-0, Okada is in 4th place and 11,000 behind 3rd place Taro and 19,000 behind 2nd place dealer Kayamori.
Okada starts out the hand 4-shanten with nothing in particular standing out. However, as the first row goes on, she starts drawing pairs after pairs. Around the middle of the first row, she picks up her fifth one to get to iishanten.
Looking around the table, Kazuma has already called once to get to iishanten and Taro is starting to rev up. At the end of the first row, Taro is the first to tenpai and calls riichi on a 3s kanchan.

Immediately after, Kazuma makes a triplet of wests and waits on a 9m/3s shanpon. If he draws either of them himself, he will have a haneman.

Right after him, Okada makes a 4p pair and calls riichi on a 7p tanki. In the middle of the third row, Okada draws the 7p and wins the hand. With the 4p also being the uradora, Okada wins the hand with Riichi/Tanyao/Chiitoi/Ura 2 for 3,000/6,000 plus a riichi stick, putting her in a 2nd place tie with Kayamori.
Escaping 4th

October 14, Game 2, S4-0
In S4-0, Kayamori is in 4th place and 900 behind 3rd place dealer Taro. Kayamori just needs to win anything to escape the 4th place curse.
With Kayamori’s first draw, she gets to 2-shanten with a good wait guaranteed for her. On her next draw she gets to a perfect iishanten. A turn later, she gets to tenpai and calls riichi on a 25m ryanmen.

Though it looks like everything is perfect for her, danger awaits on the horizon. During the ippatsu round, Okada gets to tenpai and calls riichi on a 58m ryanmen. If Okada gets one more booster, she will move into 1st place. What’s more, Okada will win on the headbump if the 5m is discarded.

However, headbump doesn’t matter if you draw it yourself. In the middle of the second row, Kayamori draws the 5m and wins the hand. Kayamori wins with Riichi/Tsumo/Ura 1 for 1,000/2,000 plus a riichi stick, finishing in 3rd place and ending her 3-game 4th place streak.
