Standings
Gaining the most points this week is the U-Next Pirates. Three 1sts this week and avoiding 4th for all six games will definitely raise a team’s score. This run included the team’s first daily double on October 16. The team’s +153.3pts gain rewarded them with a 1st place standing in the overall rankings. Two Pirates members also stand on the individual podium, with Yu in 1st place with +218.1pts and Mizuhara in 3rd with +133.3pts.
The Konami Mahjong Fight Club is next. Through a very difficult time for the team, they did their very best to remember and honour Maehara through their mahjong. On October 16, original members (and Maehara’s teammates during the very first season) Hisato and Takamiya both won their games, as if pushed by the spirit of Maehara to win. And with their poses at the end of their games, they honoured him on the M-League stage. A first place by Takizawa the next day added to the team’s total. By the end of the week, the team had moved up from 6th place to 3rd place.
Rounding out the gainers are the EX Furinkazan and Akasaka Drivens. The EX Furinkazan avoided 4th and Nagai managed to get a 1st to save the team from a negative week, but the team still drops down to 2nd place overall, losing their spot at the top of the standings. For the Akasaka Drivens, an even 1/1/1/1 week was made positive by a strong showing by Asami to get 1st and a 32,200 3rd place by Futoshi.
Losing points are the Beast X, Sega Sammy Phoenix, Team Raiden, Shibuya Abemas and Earth Jets. A 1/2/2/1 record by the Beast meant they bled some very slight oka points, though they do manage to reduce the losses and actually move up to 6th place. The Sega Sammy Phoenix couldn’t get a 1st place, but they did manage to avoid 4th in their four games. Team Raiden couldn’t get a 1st place either, going 0/2/1/1 on the week to drop from 2nd to 4th. The Shibuya Abemas had two 1sts this week, but negative 4ths on Thursday and Friday plus another 4th on Monday made them net negative. And for the Earth Jets, they managed to be the top gainer on Tuesday, but a back-to-back 4th place result on Thursday pushes the team down to -311.2pts at the bottom of the standings.
Finally, we have the Kadokawa Sakura Knights. They played four games and had a 0/1/1/2 record. Making matters worse, Shibukawa, their only positive player on the team, ended up getting the flu and was out for a bit. With their -108.6pts drop this week, the team goes from 5th and in the positives to 7th and in the negatives.
And that’s all for this week. With a lot of emotions stirring inside, it’s been quite a week. I am sure that Maehara would be happy to see how much he has helped bring M-League to where it is today and where M-League will continue to go. Maehara’s legacy continues to shape both M-League and the mahjong world. And we shall honour him by continuing to play mahjong and cheer on M-League, as he would have wanted us to do. See you next week.
