In E1-0, Yu starts out the hand at 2-shanten with two completed sequences and stil looking for a pair On turn 2, he makes a pair of 1p to get to iishanten, leaving only a 47p ryanmen and a 2m kanchan left to be resolved. At the end of the first row, Yu draws a 7p, discards the 5m and calls riichi on a 2m kanchan.

To Yu’s right, Taro is iishanten. Two turns after Yu’s riichi, Taro gets to tenpai and calls riichi on a 25m ryanmen.

Though Taro has no chance at dealing into Yu, he is at a disadvantage in a headbump scenario.

For Yu, he is at risk of drawing a 5m and dealing into Taro, especially since there are three 5m left in the wall. But, luck is on Yu’s side as he draws the 2m in the middle of the second row. With the uradora flip, Yu’s 1p becomes the new dora and doubles his hand’s han value. Yu wins with Riichi/Tsumo/Ura 2 for 2,000/4,000 plus a riichi stick, taking the early lead.

In S1-0, Nakada is in 2nd place and is 4,300 behind 1st place Yu.

Nakada starts out the hand at 4-shanten with not much opping out, especially against 3-shanten Yu who has a triplet of 8p dora. But, as the first row goes on, Nakada starts drawing souzu and her hand keeps advancing. By turn 4, she has five pairs and is rid of all pinzu and manzu. At the start of the second row, she pairs up the 7s and waits dama on a 6s tanki. A turn later, she switches to a red dragon tanki and calls riichi, guaranteeing her at least a haneman.

Just two turns later, Nakada draws the red dragon and wins the hand. She chose the right tanki, as the uradora flip reveals the red dragon and upgrades the hand to a baiman. Nakada wins the hand with Riichi/Honitsu/Chiitoi/Ura 2 for 8,000 all, moving her up to 56,100.

In S2-0, Nakada starts with a strong 2-shanten hand with a secured red 5p and some potential utilization fo the dora 7p. It take a few turns, but Nakada eventually get to iishanten at the end of the first row, needing to fill a 6p kanchan and a 36s ryanmen.

Because it took so long for Nakada to advance, other players catch up. At the start of the second row, Taro calls a simple chii and get sto tenpai on a 36p ryanmen.

Two turns later, Aikawa calls a 2m pon and gets to tenpai on a 6p/7s shanpon.

On Nakada’s turn, she has an opportunity to take a 6p kanchan tenpai, but chooses to safely discard the 7p. Two turns later, Nakada is able to get to a 36p ryanmen tenpai instead and calls riichi.

To complete the tenpai table, Yu gets there in the third row and waits on an 8p kanchan.

With everyone tenpai with live waits, someone is going to win. On Nakada’s next draw, she gets the 3p and wins the hand. With the uradora flip, Nakada adds two han to her hand to get to a haneman. Nakada wins with Riichi/Tsumo/Pinfu/Aka 1/Ura 2 for 3,000/6,000.

In E3-0, Shibata is the dealer in 1st place after winning the previous hand.

Shibata starts out the hand at 3-shanten with two sequences, a ryanmen and an isolated 1m dora. On turn 2, Shibata draws a red 5s to complete a sequence. On turn 3, Shibata pairs up the 1m dora to get to iishanten, gearing him up for a mangan tenpai.

Things are going perfectly for Shibata, but the same thing is happening for Sonoda. On his turn 3, Sonoda gets to tenpai and calls riichi on a 14s ryanmen.

With 11 different tiles that will get Shibata to tenpai, he simply pushes. On turn 5, he creates a good wait and calls riichi on a 47p ryanmen. Just two turns later, Shibata draws the 4p and wins the hand. Shibata wins with Riichi/Tsumo/Pinfu/Dora 2/Aka 1 for 6,000 all plus one riichi stick.

In E3-1, Daisuke is in 2nd place and just 2,000 from dropping into 4th place.

Starting at 2-shanten with his first 14 tiles, every single one of his draws advances him. After drawing the 3s for two straight turns, Daisuke gets to tenpai and calls riichi on a 36m ryanmen, wanting the 3m for a 345 sanshoku. On his very next draw, he gets that desired 3m and wins the hand. Daisuke wins with Riichi/Ippatsu/Tsumo/Pinfu/Sanshoku for 3,000+100/6,000+100.

In E4-0, Shibata is trying to make space between him and the advancing dealer Daisuke. Even a single mangan tsumo by Daisuke can drop Shibata’s lead to just 1,000.

With Shibata’s first draw, he pairs up the 1s dora, putting him 2-shanten for a pairs hand and 3-shanten for a standard hand. In the first row, he draws a third 1s to get to a standard 2-shanten. If he manages to make the 6p and west into concealed triplets, he could be in line for a yakuman.

At the start of the second row, he draws a 6p, putting him one-away from a big hand. On turn 10, he draws a fourth 8s. Though he could call kan, he is actually tenpai on a 7s kanchan. Not wanting to break that, he takes the 7s kanchan tenpai and waits dama, allowing him the opportunty to upgrade to a yakuman.

Looking around the table. Daisuke has a very competitive hand with two secured red fives and a the possibility of a 567 sanshoku. Creating a 567p sequence in the third row, Daisuke gets to tenpai and waits dama on a 58s ryanmen. If he can win on the 5s, he will have enough for a haneman and move into 1st place.

In the middle of the third row, Shibata draws the 7s and wins the hand. Shibata wins with Tsumo/Sanankou/Dora 3 for 3,000/6,000, pushing Shibata’s score into 58,200.

In S3-0, Shibata starts out the hand 3-shanten for both a pairs and a standard hand, holding an isolated red 5m and 8m dora. Within the first five turns, Shibata gets to five pairs, including a pair of the 5m. On turn 8, he makes his sixth pair and calls riichi on an 8m dora tanki.

With nobody daring to throw the dora 8m against a dealer riichi, Shibata’s only hope of winning is by drawing it himself. In the third row, he gets that 8m and wins the hand. Shibata wins with Riichi/Tsumo/Chiitoi/Dora 2/Aka 1 for 6,000 all, moving him to 78,900.
