In S1-0, Asami is in 2nd place and is 3,600 behind 1st place dealer Kazuma.

Asami starts out the hand 3-shanten but not really holding any value. In the first row, she only advances to 2-shanten, but she is guaranteed a good wait. In addition, she is a 6p and a 6s away from a 678 sanshoku. In the second row, she completes a 234p sequence and gets to a perfect iishanten.

As Asami waits, Kazuma gets to tenpai first and waits dama on a south tanki.

Soon after, Nagai gets to tenpai and calls riichi on 47m ryanmen.

During the ippatsu round, Asami draws a 6s and calls riichi on a 69p ryanmen, wanting the 6p for maximum value. Two turns later, Nagai discards the 6p and deals into Asami. Hitting the uradora, Asami wins the hand with Riichi/Pinfu/Sanshoku/Ura 1 for 8,000.


Nagai

In S3-1, Nagai is the dealer in 4th place, 1,600 behind 3rd place Takizawa and 25,500 behind 1st place Kazuma. Two riichi sticks and a honba sit in the pot.

Nagai starts out the hand 3-shanten with a triplet of green dragons and a loosely-connected red 5s. In the first row, Nagai secures the red 5s by drawing a 345s sequence, helping him get to iishanten by the end of the first row.

At the start of the second row, Nagai increases his acceptance from 3 tiles to 7 tiles. A turn later, Nagai gets to tenpai and calls riichi on a 58p ryanmen. In the middle of the second row, Nagai draws the 5p and wins the hand. Nagai wins the hand with Riichi/Tsumo/Green Dragon/Aka 1 for 4,000+100 plus two riichi stick, moving up to 3rd place.


Takizawa

In S4-3, Takizawa is in 4th place and is 16,800 behind 3rd place Nagai.

Takizawa starts off at 2-shanten, though he doesn’t have any value. His advancement isn’t the fastest, but he does manage to get to iishanten by the end of the first row, having six different tiles for a good wait tenpai.

At the start of the second row, Asami is the first to tenpai and waits on a 7p kanchan.

Two turns later, Nagai gets to tenpai on a 147m wait.

On Takizawa’s turn, he gets to tenpai and calls riichi on a 36m ryanmen. Because of the dealer riichi, Nagai chooses to fold. At the start of the third row, Nagai draws the 6m and wins the hand. With his 6p pair being the uradora, Takizawa wins the hand with Riichi/Tsumo/Pinfu/Ura 2 for 4,000+300 all, moving Takizawa into 3rd place and within another dealer mangan of 1st place.


Kazuma

November 24, Game 1, S4-4

In S4-4, Kazuma is in 2nd place and is 3,800 behind 1st place Asami. With four honba, Kazuma needsa any direct hit or a 2/30 tsumo for 1st place, or a 2/40 ron for a 1st place tie.

Kazuma starts out the hand at 2-shanten with a callable tanyao and two red fives. All he needs to do is get going. On turn 2, he gets to iishanten, having five different tiles to get to tenpai. At the end of the first row, he calls pon on the 8p and waits on a 6s kanchan. Within the go-around, Takizawa discards the 6s and deals into Kazuma. Kazuma wins the hand with Tanyao/Aka 2 for 3,900+1,200, winning the game.

In E3-0, Taro is in 1st place with a 6,400 lead over 2nd place dealer Date.

Taro starts off at 2-shanten with a 6s dora. Within three draws, Taro is already tenpai on a 7s kanchan. staying dama with a 5,200 hand.

As Taro waits, his opponents call. Uchikawa makes two calls total and Date calls pon on the white dragon. Approaching the middle of the second row, Date gets to tenpai on a 3m kanchan.

RIght after, Shibata calls chii for iishanten. On Taro’s turn, he draws a red 5s and upgrades his wait. He calls riichi and waits on a 47s ryanmen, guaranteed at least a mangan.

Though Date makes a call to break the ippatsu round, it ends up shifting the wall to give Taro the 4s. Taro wins the hand with Riichi/Tsumo/Iipeikou/Dora 1/Aka 2 for 3,000/6,000.


Shortcut to Haneman

In S1-0, Shibata is in 4th place and is 11,600 behind 3rd place Uchikawa.

Shibata starts out making a pair of 3p, adding to her 3s, 7p and 7m pairs. The first row doesn’t give her anything, but the start of the second row gives her a pair of 4m. It takes a bit more waiting, but the end of the second row gives him a pair of 2m dora, getting him to tenpai on a 5s tanki. Holding a single red 5s, she is tenpai on a haneman without even calling riichi. Two turns later, Taro discards the 5s and deals into Shibata. Shibata wins the hand with Chiitoi/Tanyao/Dora 2/Aka 1 for 12,000, moving into 3rd place.


South 4 Shift

November 24, Game 2, S4-0

In S4-0, Shibata is in 4th place, 3,100 behind 3rd place Uchikawa and 18,600 behind 2nd place Taro.

Shibata starts out the hand at 3-shanten with two ryanmens and a connected 8m dora. On turn 2, he draws a second 8m dora. At the end of the row, he draws a third 8m to get to 2-shanten.

To his right, 2nd place Taro wants to finish in 1st. Having already called pon on both the east and green dragon, he aims for a honitsu. At the end of the second row, Taro gets to tenpai on a 5p kanchan. turn later, he upgrades to a 58p ryanmen.

Back to Shibata, he is iishanten and waiting on 11 different tiles for tenpai, all of them giving a good wait. On his next turn, he gets to tenpai and calls riichi on a 36m ryanmen. Within the go-around, Taro draws and discards the last 3m and deals into Shibata. Shibata wins the hand with Riichi/Ippatsu/Dora 3 for 12,000. With the direct hit off Taro, Shibata moves into 2nd place.
