Standings
The top performing team this week is the EX Furinkazan. No surprise, the person leading the charge is none other than current individual 1st place Nagai. With two 1sts this week, he pushes his individual score up to +462.5, far ahead of Kazuma’s +251.8pts. Nagai also leads the rankings in most 1sts, already having 9 before the season is even halfway through. With these big gains, the EX Furinkazan moves up to 1st place in the overall standings.
Earth Jets, Sega Sammy Phoenix, Shibuya Abemas, Beast X and U-Next Pirates all gained points as well. The Earth Jets managed to to get two 1sts (including Kazuma getting his 7th of the season) to inch their way closer to the chasing pack. The Sega Sammy Phoenix had two 1sts by Kayamori to push them up from 7th to 5th. The Abemas were able to avoid 4th place all week to put them within a 1st place of 5th place. The Beast X had a small scare of being in the negatives during the week, but a big 1st by Nakada and a 2nd by Shimoishi to end the week let them end the week with a net gain. And an even record by the U-Next Pirates cut it close, but a decent +66.6pts 1st place and +20.3pts 2nd place by Nakabayashi was the difference.
Akasaka Drivens, Konami Mahjong Fight Club and Team Raiden dropped points this week. The Drivens had an even record like the Pirates, but a tought 3rd place by Futoshi caused them to lean in the negatives slightly. The Konami Mahjong Fight Club had three 2nds for some small gains, but a 4th by Date dropped the team. And though Team Raiden was the best performer at their table on Friday, it wasn’t enough to displace their losses from earlier in the week.
Finally, we have the Kadokawa Sakura Knights. After going down to 10th in the overall standings last week, they needed to get some wins. Unfortunately, they were unable to do so. It looked like there was hope with a 1st place by Hori to start off the week, but it was then followed by two 3rds and three 4ths. With a -156.7pts drop this week, they are down to -491.6pts, more than double the score of 9th place.
And that’s all for this week. By the end of next week, we will already be halfway through the season! Can the Kadokawa Sakura Knights climb back up? Will the EX Furinkazan and Konami Mahjong Fight Club duel it out, or will another team join the fray? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
