The top-performing team this week is the EX Furinkazan. They only played 4 games this week, but three of those four games were 1sts. On Tuesday, Nagai got his 11th win of the season thanks to a strong South 4 finish. On Thursday, Uchikawa and Aki gave the team a daily double and pushed the team up to +711.3pts. They now hold a 93.5pts lead over the Konami Mahjong Fight Club.
Konami Mahjong Fight Club, Shibuya Abemas and Beast X were all positive, all of them with triple-digit gains. Playing on three days, the Konami Mahjong Fight Club was the top performer at their table for two of them, keeping them within reach of the EX Furinkazan. The Shibuya Abemas had Ooi winning half of the teams games to bring him up to 6th place individually and pushing the team up from 7th to 5th. The Beast X was also the top performer in two of their three game days, with Shimoishi winning two games to put him 2nd place overall.
Akasaka Drivens, Kadokawa Sakura Knights, Team Raiden, Sega Sammy Phoenix and Earth Jets all lost points this week. The Drivens had a 2nd and three 3rds which caused them to drop down below -200.0pts and into 7th place. The Kadokawa Sakura Knights dropped down to below -300.0pts after a 1/2/1/2 record. Team Raiden could gain points in any of their games, dropping them to 6th place. And the Sega Sammy Phoenix had two 4ths this week, including a -18,500 by Daigo to push them down to 4th place overall.
Finally, we have the U-Next Pirates. The sinking continues. A 3rd place and three 4ths pushed the team down to 10th place and their lowest point ever at -485.5pts. On one hand, there is still two and a half months of gameplay left. On the other, there is only two and a half months of gameplay left. Whichever way they view it, they will have to make the most of it to move into a playoff spot.
And that’s all for the first week of 2026! We still have three months to go in the regular season and there’s still a lot of time to the standings to shift. Will the EX Furinkazan and Konami Mahjong Fight Club fight off the rest of the competition? Can the U-Next Pirates return to floating? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
