Sonoda starts out the hand at a very annoying 5-shanten, the only value being an isolated 8s dora. The first row provides some well-needed tiles, creating a 789s sequence to secure the 8s and gets to 2-shanten by the end of the row.
Takamiya is also iishanten, but for seven pairs. At the start of the second row, she gets her sixth pair and waits dama on an 8s dora tanki. A ron gives her a mangan, a tsumo gives her a haneman.

With no riichi in play, there’s no pressure put on Sonoda, allowing him to push with ease. At the start of the third row, he gets to tenpai and calls riichi on a 47p ryanmen, guaranteed at least a mangan. On his very next turn, Sonoda gets the 4p and wins the hand. Sonoda wins with Riichi/Ippatsu/Tsumo/Pinfu/Dora 1/Aka 1 for 6,000+100 all, easily moving into 1st place.
