M-League Yakuman Day (October 26)

For M-League, October 26 is Yakuman Day (役満の日, yakuman no hi). On and around this day, yakuman are the focus, from winning yakuman to close calls to local yakuman.

October 26, 2020 was the very first time that it was called “Yakuman Day”, with the commentators referencing the events of the past two years.

Though no regular yakuman were won, EX Furinkazan member Takizawa Kazunori won a Chinitsu/Toitoi/Haitei baiman in S2-0 of the second game. Though it’s not a yakuman, the hand had triplets of 2m, 3m, 4m and 5m, qualifying the hand for the local yakuman Suurenkou if M-League used it.

On October 26, 2021, Hagiwara Masato of Team Raiden was the dealer in S4-1. With this first 13 tiles, he was already tenpai. If he could draw his winning 8p, he would win the extremely rare yakuman Tenhou.

Unfortunately, he ended up drawing the 2p and didn’t get the Tenhou. Instead, he calls a tsumogiri double riichi and ended up winning with Double Riichi/Tsumo/Chiitoi for a dealer mangan.

In addition, both Murakami Jun of the Akasaka Drivens and Matsumoto Yoshihiro of the Shibuya Abemas were tenpai for yakuman (for Suuankou and Kokushi Musou, respectively) the day before on October 25. Neither player ended up winning, though.

2023

No yakuman or yakuman chances occurred on or around October 26, 2023.

The 2023-24 season would be the only season so far where no yakuman were won.
