M-League 2023-24 Week 8: Kan

Standings

The top team this week is the U-Next Pirates. What a week it has been. On Thursday, they started the day in 3rd place with +144.4pts. With the combined efforts of Mizuhara and Yu, they were able to win over half of the hands and come out with two 1sts, including the highest score so far this season of 70,900 by Mizuhara. After Konami’s results on Friday, the U-Next Pirates now sit in the crow’s nest at the top of the standings.

Following close behind in this week’s performance rankings are the EX Furinkazan. Despite only playing two games this week, they made the most of it. When they played on Monday, they sent Matsugase first, being efficient with his wins and taking 1st with 40,000 flat. After him, they sent Aki. She barraged the table with wins and won just under half of them, finishing the game with 52,200. With the daily double, they finished with a +132.2pts gain, cutting their deficit in half and moving up to 6th place.

Hovering around the same points they had last week are Team Raiden and the Konami Mahjong Fight Club. Team Raiden had to face this week’s top team, the U-Next Pirates, four times and they held their ground. The team avoided 4th in all their games (with Hagiwara getting 1st place in his) and went up by +15.8pts. The Konami Mahjong Fight Club had an even record, but fell just a little bit with a -0.6pts net loss. Unfortunately, the small loss and the Pirates’ big gain caused the team to fall down into 2nd place.

In the double-digit losses are the Kadokawa Sakura Knights, Akasaka Drivens, Beast Japanext and Sega Sammy Phoenix. With two daily doubles this week, the other teams had to find points where they can. Many of them challenged for sizeable 2nds, with all but two of the 2nds this week being 30,000 or greater. Still, the 3rds and 4ths this outweighed any of the gains this week. The most noteable player of the week is Uchikawa, who played two games and won two rinshan hands in the same game, gainin +78.5pts for his team on Friday.

And finally, coming last in the performance rankings, we have the Shibuya Abemas. In each one of their games, they dealt in at least twice. Even as they called riichi multiple times, none of them could give them the big score they wanted. The 0/1/1/2 record and -112.6pts drop hurts them and drops them into 4th, but the gains they had in previous weeks keep them in the positives.

That’s all for this week! We have a new leader in the standings, but the competition is aggressively challenging them. Can the U-Next Pirates hold onto top spot? Will we see more rinshan action? Will we see another sanbaiman, or something better? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
