Standings
The top performer and now the top of the standings is the Beast X. Avoiding 4th place in all four of their games, the biggest gainer for them was Nakada. Her 1st place thanks in no small part to her baiman win started this fifth strong. And with Shimoishi getting a yakuman, things looked very good. By the end, they gained +105.9pts.
The only other gainer over these past six games was the EX Furinkazan. Haven taken very many months to get his first two 1sts, he just got two 1sts in the span of three days. Even as Uchikawa dealt into a yakuman, Katsumata kept the team afloat this fifth. Though they lose top spot to the Beast X, the EX still remain competitive and trail by only 22.6pts.
Next is Team Raiden. It started out looking like a disaster on Thursday with a 1,700 3rd place and a -8,900 4th place, pushing them within a 4th place of falling out of a playoff spot after all the work they had done. Luckily, Honda was able to save the day on Friday with a 1st and a 2nd. They fell overall, but they are now higher above the elimination line.
The Akasaka Drivens are next. Things started out really well with Futoshi getting a dama sanbaiman and beating out a yakuma winner. Unfortunately, the team couldn’t hold the gain, with two 3rds and a 4th following. They lost points and dropped down to -39.1pts, sitting at 81.3pts away from the border.
Similarly, the Sega Sammy Phoenix had a positive result in Genta’s 54,000 1st place, but a 4th place on Tuesday and Friday caused it to be cancelled. With these losses, they remain in their 5th place position.
Finally, we have Konami Mahjong Fight Club. What a terrible time to struggle. A 0/2/1/1 record, with one of those 2nds being a -0.2pts result. The team now sits at just 0.2pts above the elimination line. Their final four games will be critical.
And that’s all for this fifth! Only six more games, four games for each team, and our finalists will be decided. Will the Sega Sammy Phoenix and Akasaka Drivens catch up? Will the other teams hold on? Will we have another yakuman? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
