In S3-1, Honda is the dealer with 47,800, more than double the score of 2nd place. With the team at the bottom of the rankings, he needs as many points as he can get.

Honda starts the hand pairing up the red dragon, adding to his 7m, 2p and 7s pairs. Adding a green dragon pair on turn 2, he gets to chiitoi iishanten. With two dragon pairs, though, going for triplets would be worth more. On turn 4, he confirms it by calling pon on the green dragon.

Honda’s knows where he’s going, but his opponents can put up obstacles. In the middle of the second row, Nakada pairs up the north dora and calls riichi on a 14m ryanmen, guaranteed at least a mangan.

A few turns later, Katsumata gets to tennpai on a 69m ryanmen. Staying dama at first, he decides to call riichi at the end of the row.

By this point, Honda is at iishanten with his 7s paair becoming a triplet. During the ippatsu round, he draws a third red dragon and gets to tenpai on a 2p/7m shanpon. On his very next turn, he draws the 2p and wins the hand. Honda wins with Toitoi/Sanankou/Red Dragon/Green Dragon for 6,000+100 all plus two riichi sticks, taking him up to 68,100.

Dora Dora Aka Ura

In S3-2, Katsumata is in 2nd place, though 1st place is far out of reach. More importantly, he has to expand his 8,000 lead over 3rd place an 9,600 lead over 4th place.

Katsumata starts out the hand at 2-shanten, drawing a lone red dragons as his first draw. Within the first row, he takes some steps to try to get some better shapes, including going back a shanten. All the while, he holds the red dragon in hopes of pairing it up, even if it slows him down a bit.

In the middle of the third row, the gamble pays off as he gets another red dragon for tenpai. He calls riichi and waits on a 14s ryanmen, guaranteed at least a mangan.

To his right, Takamiya has been busy calling, already securing a south triplet. Holding a single red dragon, he looks to take advantage of the value. With a pon on the 9p with Katsumata’s riichi discard, she gets to tenpai on a red dragon tanki.

In the third row, Honda calls pon on the 1p for the purpose of being tenpai (even without a yaku). With the red dragon trapped in his hand, Takamiya’s wait is dead, allowing smooth sailing for Katsumata. In the middle of the third row, Katsumata draws the 4s and wins the hand. With an uradora hit, Katsumata wins with Riichi/Tsumo/Dora 2/Aka 1/Ura 1 for 3,000+200/6,000+200

Final Scores

Standings

With Honda’s 1st place, Team Raiden is the best performer of the day and is back on track and moves up to 3rd place in the standings.Katsumata’s solid 2nd place in the face of adversity cuts down the Konami Mahjong FIght Club’s lead, but, they are still 96.4pts ahead. And Nakada’s 4th place reduces the teams gain to just 0.9pts on the day.

And that’s all for today! Just one more day of games before we go into our final M-League weekend. Can the Konami Mahjong Fight Club hold onto this lead? Will the EX Furinkazan take it back? Or will an underdog come out from the shadows? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
