Mangan Mangan

May 14, Game 2

In E3-0, Katsumata is the dealer in 1st place, holding only a 2,100 lead over 2nd place.

Katsumata starts out the hand at 3-shanten with a pair of red dragons and is a 3s away from a 123s iipeikou. Katsumata doesn’t get too much progress in the first row, leaving him at 3-shanten after six turns.

To his right, Tojo gets to tenpai and calls riichi on a 36s ryanmen.

After getting rid of some stray honours, Katsumata gets to iishanten. With two ryanmens and the 1s being safe, Katsumata discards the 1s and gives up on the iipeikou.

At the start of the third row, Katsumata gets to tenpai and calls riichi on a 25m ryanmen. On his very next turn, Katsumata draws the 2m and wins the hand. Katsumata wins with Riichi/Ippatsu/Tsumo/Dora 1 for 4,000 all plus a riichi stick.

In E3-1, Katsumata is at 3-shanten with a hand destined to be chanta or junchan. On turn 4, Katsumata pairs up the south dora, pushing his hand closer to chanta. At the end of the row, Katsumata calls a 123s chii and gets to iishanten.

In the second row, Katsumata fills in an 8s kanchan and gets to tenpai on a 2p kanchan. A few turns later, Katsumata draws a third south and switches to a 1p tanki, guaranteed a mangan. At the same time, both Tojo and Hisato are tenpai, but neither of them have a yaku. Before the row is done, Tojo discards the 1p and deals into Katsumata. Katsumata wins the hand with Chanta/Dora 3 for 12,000+300, taking him up to 54,200.

Hisato Highlight

In S3-0, Hisato is in 4th place, 200 behind 3rd place Tojo, 23,300 behind 2nd place Honda and 40,900 behind 1st place Katsumata. With no dealership left, Hisato only has two hands left to make a comeback.

Hisato starts out the hand pairing up the west dora, going along with his red dragon pair and a secured red 5p. If he can get both yakuhai, he will have a haneman. On turn 2, he creates a ryanmen for 2-shanten. After a short interruption to fix the scores, Hisato fills in a penchan for iishanten. At the end of the row, Hisato gets to tenpai and calls riichi on a red dragon/west shanpon. In the middle of the second row, Honda discards the west trying to take a three-sided wait and deals into Hisato. Hisato wins the hand with Riichi/West/Dora 3/Aka 1 for 12,000. With the direct hit, Hisato moves up to 2nd place.

In S4-0, Hisato may have a hard time closing the 28,900 gap on Katsumata, but any win make sure he finishes in 2nd, especially since he’s only ahead by 700.

Hisato starts out the hand at 3-shanten for a standard hand with a pair of 9m dora. With pairs of 1m, 6m and 3s as well, Hisato can also go for a pairs hand or even all triplets. On turn 2, he draws a third 6m for a triplet. On turn 4, Hisato confirms the triplets route by calling pon on the 9m dora. Before the row is done, Hisato calls pon on the 3s.

As Katsumata waits for tenpai, Honda gets there first. In the middle of the second row, Honda makes an 8p pon and waits on a 69s ryanmen only allowed to win on the 6s. At the end of the row, he switches to a sole 6s wait for a guaranteed yaku.

Soon after, Tojo calls a concealed kan and makes the 2p the new dora.

At the start of the third row, Hisato calls pon on the 1m and waits on a 2p tanki. Two turns later, Tojo discards the the 2p trying to take a 5p kanchan (since there’s only one 3p left if she chose that wait) and deals into Hisato. Hisato wins the hand with Toitoi/Dora 5 for 12,000, finishing the game in 2nd place with 32,900.

Final Scores

Standings

With the huge 1st/4th swing with the EX Furinkazan and Beast X, it also gives the EX Furinkazan a huge leg upgoing into the final hand, having a 169.7pts lead. As a result of the big loss by the Beast X and Hisato’s 2nd place, the Konami Mahjong Fight Club is now 57.3pts from 2nd place. And Team Raiden is back to the negatives, but anything can happen on the final day.

And that’s all for today! Only one more day to go! Just a reminder that Friday’s broadcast will start 2 hours earlier to take into account the awards ceremony afterwards. Who will be the victor? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
