In E1-0, Wataru is the starting south seat and starts off drawing the red 5s. At 3-shanten with no good waits, things aren’t really looking favourable. However, the wall gifts him with a red 5p to fill in a kanchan and a 3m dora to fill in a penchan, giving him iishanten.

By this time, dealer Hisato is iishanten as well. Two turns into the second row, Hisato is tenpai first and calls riichi on a 7s kanchan.

Immediately after, Wataru gets to tenpai, throws the red 5s and calls riichi on a 58p ryanmen.

In the middle fo the third row, Wataru draws the 5p and wins the hand. With the 5p also being the uradora, Wataru wins the hand with Riichi/Tsumo/Pinfu/Dora 1/Aka 1/Ura 2 for 3,000/6,000 plus a riichi stick.

In E4-0, Kurosawa is the dealer in 4th place, 6,900 behind 3rd place Hisato and 10,800 behind 2nd place Mizuhara.

Kurosawa starts out with a very strong 3-shanten hand, holding two secured dora 5m, including the red 5m. By turn 3, she has a clear path to tanyao.

Despite Kurosawa’s strong start, her hand stalls a bit and Wataru takes the lead in progress. At the end of the first row, Wataru is tenpai on a 2s kanchan, but he doesn’t have a yaku. After backing off for a turn after drawing the dora 5m, he discards it after getting a red 5s. He waits dama on a 4s kanchan. Two turns later, he improves to a 47s ryanmen, wanting the 7s for a 567 iipeikou.

For Kurosawa, she has secured a 9m pair in her hand, but does have pinfu and good waits in tow. At the start of the third row, she gets to tenpai and waits dama on a 36s ryanmen. On her very next draw, she gets the 3s and wins the hand. Kurosawa wins with Tsumo/Pinfu/Dora 2/Aka 1 for 4,000 all, moving into 2nd place.

In S2-0, Kurosawa is now 9,600 behind 1st place Wataru.

From the very start, Kurosawa already has the blueprint for both pinfu and tanyao. In the first row, she is only able to complete one sequence. The main tile for success is the 6p to complete a 678p sequence and secure tanyao.

At the start of the second row, she completes a 345m sequence for iishanten. A turn later, she draws the 6p for tenpai and calls riichi on a 58s ryanmen. Before the row is done, Hisato discards the 5s trying to keep a perfect iishanten and deals into Kurosawa. Getting an uradora, Kurosawa wins the hand with Riichi/Tanyao/Pinfu/Ura 1 for 8,000, putting her within 1,600 of 1st place.

Going into S3-0, the game has been a bunch of small hands and small exchanges (aside from the 5,900 won from the pot in S1-3). Hori is in 4th place, but is just 3,300 behind 1st place dealer Date.

Hori starts out at 2-shanten, though the hand is relatively unremarkable. Value doesn’t grow in the first row, but he does complete a 345p sequence to advance to iishanten.

In the meantime, Yu is busy making calls. After a 6m pon and an 8p pon, Yu gets to tenpai on a green dragon/6p shanpon, only allowed to win on the green dragon.

Immediately after, Hori calls riichi on a 3m/1s shanpon. Because of the riichi Yu ends up going to switching to a yakuless tenpai.

In the third row, Hori draws the 3m and wins the hand. And like so many have gotten this week, he hits the ura 3 and wins the hand. Hori wins with Riichi/Tsumo/Ura 3 for 2,000/4,000, moving into 1st place.
