Standings
The top team this week is the Shibuya Abemas. The teams have never played eight games during a regular season week, but the Shibuya Abemas handled it almost perfectly. On Monday and Tuesday, they were the top performers of their table, with both Ooi and Matsumto getting 50,000+ 1sts. On Thursday, Ooi had a stunning 101.6pts game, which would have been the best game of the week if it wasn’t for Tojo getting 102.7pts the game before. With Matsumoto getting a 1st place on Friday, the team ends the week with a 4/1/2/1 record and a +204.5pts gain, they rocked up from 7th place and in the negatives to 1st place with a 59.0pts lead over the 2nd place team.
The Kadokawa Sakura Knights, Konami Mahjong Fight Club, U-Next Pirates and Beast X all had positive results. Each of these teams won their table at least once, with the U-Next Pirates doing it twice. For the Kadokawa Sakura Knights, Hori and Wataru both got a 1st place, making it the first daily double of the season. The Konami Mahjong Fight Club escape the bottom of the standings and moves up to 7th place. The U-Next PIrates continues sailing forward, having avoided 4th place in all 10 of their games so far this season. And the Beast X’s Tojo Rio holds the highest score of the season so far, winning with 82,700 on Thursday.
The EX Furinkazan, Akasaka Drivens and Team Raiden all lost points. The EX Furinkazan played all four days, and their biggest gain in one day was +16.9pts from two 2nds on Tuesday. With almost no change on Monday and Thursday, and a -40.7pts result on Friday, the team drops into the negatives (though they interestingly move up to 5th place because of the other teams). The Akasaka Drivens had a good 1st place by Futoshi during their first game of the week, but five straight games of losing points, pushed them to the bottom of the standings. And though Team Raiden won their table on day thanks to Setokuma’s 81,900 win, a double 4th on Tuesday and a double 3rd on Friday killed all that momentum.
Losing -191.4pts this week is the Earth Jets. A 0/2/2/2 record where even the 2nd places caused them to drop points. Both of their 4ths were also negatives, including Shibata’s -21,200 game on Thursday. Having lots of games in a week can be tough, but they will have to get used to it since the simultaneous tables will be going on until the end of the year.
Finally, losing -203.1pts is the Sega Sammy Phoenix. A 0/1/3/2 record. Both Sano and Daigo having negative 4ths. Genta and Kayamori got 3rds below 10,000. Just a very competitive week all around that they couldn’t challenge. From the top team at the end of last week to 9th place at the end of this week, it sure is a huge drop. It goes to show you how volatile things can be this early in the season.
And that’s all for this week! Quite a few high-scoring games, but we’re only in the second week? How long will it take for anyone to beat Tojo’s 82,700 highest score (if it does get beat)? Can the teams continue to handle the simulatenous table format until the end of the season? As always, we’ll just have to wait and see!
